Regulayr meeting of the City Corunission was called to order by Ylayor H. P.
Pfeiffer, with the following members present: Cc~anissioners Brown, Osbuxn
and Lawler, Supt, 1'~. A. Arthur, and Assistant City Clerk h2rs. Ruth Huddle-
ston.
I!?inutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
A discussion was held on work orders, and it eras unanimously agreed that
tdr. Arthur should see that this is done.
A discussion on days off, with pay, was held, and it was unanimously agreed
that the way it must be handled is either double pay., oar take the ti.r.~e off in
lieu of the pay, The rdayor stated that he would rather that the day be taken
off, as this was the way it was intended. The option on whether the Wen work-
ing under rifr. Arthur, work or take the day off, will be left up to hi~a. He
stated that he would rather not let they accu-xulate holidays that fall on
a Saturday or Sunda4Y.
The P.4ayor introduced Ordinance No. 579, which was read in full. After reading
same, it was determined that the ordinance Wade no r~.ention of gas inspections
for new buildings, and that this should be included. The ordinance was tabled
until the City Attorney could re write it, arxY including the section calling
f or a gas inspection on any new building.
r.4ayor Pfeiff er stated t,iat Carlos Smith had asked him what the feeli no of the
Carxr+ission was on valley gutters across the streets. The Mayor explai~ied that
v^lley gutters were a valley across the street to drain water frog one side
of street to the other, He stated that P,4r.S:~i.th had talked about raving them
approximately every two blocks. The Can~..ission thought this was a good idea,
and it would be less expensive, and would not affect the traffic .
The Y.Zayor stated that he had asked for an engineers s pro,~ess report, and was
told that they would have something to turn in around the rdddle of January.
A discussion eras held on what ~. swir±raing pool would cost. It was estimated to
be in the neighborhood of ~L~5,000.

~.st to December 30, 1959.
Carried.
The Mayor stated that at the next regulax meeting, discussion would e held
on the purchase of land for colored recreation facilities, and also i s
would be taken on swi.m~ing pool.

member of the Auxiliary- Police.

A discussion on the delinquent tax ~rork was held. Attorney Kiibler will
be contacted to see what can be done about proceeding with this work.
The T.Zayor stated that a „dew industry, Stauffer Chemical Compa~r, which is
within the newly annexed territory, should be taxed for 1960. This tvi11
be discussed further at the next regular meeting.

A discussion eras held on the proposed coning ordinance. It was decided to
have ?RTalter Roberson attend the next regular meeting, to discuss this matter
further,
Supt. Arthur stated that Lars. Rosa Lee B~orm would like to have sewerage in
Block 11, Bay Front, where she is going to ixove a house. IIr. l~sthur said
he tirould have to shoot soa•.e grades in that section, to see if sewer tivould
be available.
An extension to the long distance telephone line fro- the City Hall was
brought up; I+dr. llrthur was asked holy the system ~rrasly orking out for him,
auci 'he stated that the present set-up was working out line, as vrhen he vranted
to ~~ake a call, he contacts the girls at the office, and they take care of
it for him. He stated that lie could very yell bet along without an extension.
The I.gayor then stated that he felt like an extension to the radio control room
in the Police Dopartr~ent had become a].^iost a necessity, and discussed with
other :aerabers the reason for this. The Co:~riission agreed t'nat this ha.d just
a bout beco!~e a necessity. ~L4ayor Pfeiffer recommended that this telephone
., extension be ordered, and it tras unanimously agreed by all rerabers of the
