~ ~ ~~i MINUTES - R IXrULAR MEETING LA FORTE CITY COi~ISSION -MARCH !~, 1960 6:0o P,M. Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, with the following members present: Commissioners Brawn, Lawler, Boyle and Osburn, City Attorney C, L . Pitaman, Bnpt. ~P, A, Arthur, and City Clerk Frank G:,Baks, Also present were Jim Holley and John Marsh (Press), Frank Hoot and Doug Boyle. Minutes of the last meeting acid the special. meeting were read and approved. Carried. Motion by Brown, second by Osburn, that the opening of paving bids be postponed until March 18th, 1960. Carried. Commissioner Boyle asked the Commission to let Fire Chief Rollins state his pre- ference on fire truck which is to be purchased. Chief Rollins discussed very thoroughly the features of the American La Prance and John Beane. • Chief Rollins recommended to the Commission that the John Beane fire.. truck with requested extras be accepted, Commissioner Boyle presented a letter from Frank L. Hoot, President of the La Porte Volunteer Fire Department, recommending the purchase of the John Beane Fire Equipment. Motion by Boyle, second by Lacwler, that the City purchase the John Beane axe Truck with extras requested, at a cost of X21,157.36, F. 0. B. Lansing, Michigan. Carried. Mayor Pfeiffer will contact Art Janssen on cost of inspecting the building of Fire Station and adriition to City Hall. Motion by Boyle, second by Broom, that Contractors Moore & Moore be authorized t© termite-proof the City Hall and Fire Station. Carried. Motion by Lawler, second by Brown, that Ordinance No. 580 be accepted as read. The caption of such adopted Ordinance reads as follows: AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REJULAR BIENNIAL ELECTION OF THE CITY OFFICIALS OF THE CITY OF LA FORTE, TEXAS; PROVIDING 'BUR POLLING PLACE; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FUR RETURN AND CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING Ft7R NOTICE; PI~VIDING FnR EYEING FEES I~R CANDIDATES; AND SAVING CLAUSE. Carried. • ~ i~~ Motion by Brown, second by Osborn, that Ordinance No. 581 be adopted as read, The caption of such adopted Ordinance reads as follo9rs: AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING ~R AN ELECTION TO BE HELD APRIL 26, 1960, FOR THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF LA FORTE, TEXAS, TO ACCEPT OR RE- JECT A P%JPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CITY CHARTER OF SAID CITX F~'R A CITY COM6fiISSION COMPOSID OF A MAYOR AND TOUR (!t) COMMISSIONERS; PROVIDING ~R DECLARING THE TWO (2) CANDIDATES ~R COMn+IL5SI0NER RDCENING THE FIRST AND SECOND HIGHEST NUMBER, 0 F QUALIFIED VOTES AT THE REGULAR CITY ELECTION ON AP RIL 26, 1960, TO BE DECLARED ELECTED FOR A TERM OF TWO (2) YEARS; PROVIDING THAT THE TWO (2) CANDIDATES REOEIVING Th'E THIRD AND FOURTH HIGHEST NUMBER OF QUAL- IFIED VOTES AT THE SAID REGULAR CITY ELECTION ON APRIL 26, 1960, TO BE DECLARED ELECTID FOR A TERM OF ONE (1) YEAR: AND PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION IN THE EPEATT OF A TIE IN THE Ft~URTH HIGHEST NUMBER 0 F VOTES; PROVIDING THAT A MAYOR AND TNO (2) COM~ISSIONER6 SHALL BE ELECTID ON THE FOURTH TUESDAY OF APRIL, 1962, AND EACH ~: EVEl~T-NUMBERID YEAR THEREAFTER; PROVIDING THAT TWO (2) COMMISSIONERS SHALL BE ELECTED ON THE ~UURTH TUESDAY OF APRIL, 1961, AND CAN THE FOURTH TUESDAY OF APRIL 1N EACH ODD-NUMBERED YEAR THEREAFTER; PROVIDING THAT THE EUUR (1~) POSITIONS OF THE COM(~ISSIONERS ON THE CITY COI~~^.9ISSION SHALL BE NUItSf3ERED ONE (1), T["~0 (2), THREE (3} ~a~i~D I~QUR (4}, AND THEREArT~ THAT THE C~-~IdDIDATE5 FOR CITY CO~.fi.4ISSION SHALL E3E VOTED ON AND ELECTED SEPARATELY FnR POSITIONS ON SAID CITY C011~~ISSION AND THAT ALL CANDIDATES SHALL BE DESIGNATED ON THE OFFICIAL BALLOT ACCORDING Zb THE NULiBER OF SUCH POSITIONS TO WHICH T ~ SEEK ELECTION. Carried. Motion by Boyle, second by Brawn, that Canmissioner Boyle be authorized to take bids on 2000 feet of 22' hose and 500 feet of 12' hose. Carried. Motion by Osborn, second by Brovrn, that Robert Sowell be granted one weeks vacation pay, Carried,. Motion by Osborn, second by Lawler, that list of supplies and pipe, in the amount of X1,538.96, be p~chased from Mabry Foundry. Carried. Motion by Osborn, second. by Lavrler, that 3000 feet of 6" Transite K & M Pipe be purchased from Mabry Foundry, @ X1.63 per foot, to be paid out of water improvement ftmd, Carried. Motion by Brcn~m, that the bills of Kiibler and Kiibler be allowed. Motion was withdrawn, and Mayor Pfeiffer was instructed to contact Mr. Kiibler.
