P. ~ Pfeiffer, with the following members present: Ccgnmissioners Brown, Osburn, ~ Dunham and Stabs, City Attorney Pitman, Supt. S9.A. Arthur, and City Clerk Frank G. Baker, Also present were Keith Cummings, Al Koehler, Bryan 11Roore; Elsie Moore, Mr, Marsh and Jim Holley (Press), Ernest Brown, James Counts, ,Snooks Moore, Art Janssen, Ralph Irving and Joe Johnson. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Carried. The h~ayor asked b~Ir. Ernest Brouan to report on Government funds that are available to the City to improve the sewer system. Mr, BrouPn explained at length how the City could raise the x$40,000.00 needed to secure the X20,000.00 from the Federal Government. Motion by Osburn, second by BroNrn, that the City authorize the Engineers to proceed with the necessary plans and specifications for the improvements to sarLitary disposal plant, on the same sliding scale fee that the City . is now operating on. ® Carried. A T The Mayor asked Mr, Keith Cummings to report on several items that the ~ Commission has questioned pertaining to the sewer line under the City Ha11 Annex, Several other change items-:were discussed at length by Mr, Moore. Motion by Dunham, second by Stabs, that Change Order No. 1 be allowed W from Wyatt Hedrick onr~.re Station and City Hall. ~ ~ Carried. 'Q W a- Motion by Brov~m, second by Stabs, that Estimate No. 2 on City Hall and I`ire ~ Station from ft4oore:,& g+~oore be allowed in the amount of #5, 800.23 for Fire ~ Station and X3342.33 for City Hall, and Estimate No. 3 in the amount of ~ ! X61.50 for City Hall and X106.72 for ~'i.re Station, for Engineer's fees ~ ~ on City Hall and Fire Station. Also, Estimate No. 2 in the amount of 0 ~21~.8,30 on drainage and paving for Engineer. m Carried. 112ayor Pfeiffer asked James Counts to report on North side Community House. Mr, Counts went over the plans on same, _,~~: I~tion by Dunham, second by Osburn, that Mr. Counts proceed with plans and specifications on colored recreation building, and present same to Commiss- ion on May 25th, 1960, for their approval, and then advertise for bids. Carried. I I ~ ~ Mrs, Elsie Moore presented the preliminary report of ZorLing Commission to the City Commission. Motion by Osburn, second by Dunham, that the Commission accept the report for further study. Carried. botion by Dunham, second by Stabs, that J. C. Woerner be appointed to the Zoning Commission, replacing Eugene Hovey. P?otion by Osburn, second by Dunham, that the charge for dumping septic tank material in Oity System be X5.00 for each 250 gallons. Carried. ! notion by Broom, second by Osburn, that Ordinance No. 586, be adapted as read, The caption of such adopted Ordinance reads as follows: AN ORDIId ANCE APPOIlVTIN^~ THE DIRECTOR OF CIVIL DEi:`ENSE FnR THE CITY OF LA FORTE AND TIC CITY HEALTH OFFICER FOR THE CITY 0'F LA FORTE. Carried. Motion by Brown, second by Stabs, that the Secretary be authorized to sign the application of Mr. Hartman. Carried. ~.4otion by Dunham, second by Brown, that Coach Jack Jackson be employed as swimming pool Manager, at a salary of ~~00.00 per month, for a period of three months or fraction thereof. Carried. Motion by Dunham, second by Brown, that Coach Robert Jantz be employed as a checker at swimming pool. Commissioner Dunham withdrew his motion for flarther study, Carried. Commissioner Dunham read a letter that will be mailed to residents of La Porte who will be using the swimming pool, Motion by Stabs, second by Dunham, that Commissioner Stabs be authorized to purchase shirts for Police. Carried. a I 1 • The s alary of Fireman Leach was discussed at length. Commissioner Stabs will check and report. Commissioner Brown asked the Commission what their position was on the participation of City on paving driveways. f Motion by Osborn, second by Brown, that the decision of Secretary Baker in relation to discharge of Mrs. Eula Erwin, be sustained. Carried. Motion by Stabs, second by Osburns that Mrs. Erwin be allowed two weeks severance pay. ~ Carried. ~ Motion by Osborn, second by Brown, that Commissioner Os burn be authorized to purchase material for water and sewer line to North side Community House, and to run sewer line from Eagles Hall North, approximately 500• feet, when money is available from Robert Sorrell, et al. C arried. I~~Iotion by Osborn, second by Stabs, that the meeting adjourn. (22 minutes until 2:00 A. M.) Carried. H.
