MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING LA PORTS CITY CONLMSSSION - OCTOBER 20, 1960 ;~ `~ 7:00 P, M, `~ P,egular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H. P. Pfeift~er, with the following present: Commissioners Bro-~rn, Osborn and States, (Dunham absent due to work), 5upt.~d,A.Arthur, Attorney C. L. Pitman, Asst. Supt. Dick Cunningham, andRuth Huddleston, Asst. Clerk. Also present were Charlie Martin, Mrs. Brummerhop and Mrs. Bulay (Press). NLinutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Carried. The matter of maintenance of swimming pool was put off until Commissioner Dunham cou~1-d be present. Charlie Martin appeared before the Commission in connection with North side Community house foundation job. Motion by Brown, second by Stabs, to award contract to Mr. Martin for the bell, foundation, fill and slab at the colored recreation building, the City to buy concrete t~~rough a local company and deduct amount from Martin's contract price. `~} Carried. ~~ By motion of Stabs, and Second by Osborn, permission was granted to Xi s~. Zeta Xi Chapter of Beta :Sigma Phi for a turkey shoot to be held Nov. 12, "" 19b0, behind Pal's Pharmacy. This motion had the provision that the ~ ~;~; iu must be police supervision., a good backstop and no drinking. Carried. ~.7 ~0 A disuu~ ion was held on delinquent taxes due the City on property the '~ scrool has pur chased. Attorney Pitman will look into the legality of ~ the City collecting these delinquent tsixes. ~' . ~~ Mayor Pfeiffer presented a proposal for a rate increase from the Houston. Lighting & Power Company. Motion by Osborn, second by Stabs, to table ~ this matter until the City of Houston has passed on their rate proposal. Commissioner Brown reported that some people have requested, street lights, ~ and that he felt that there was a need for additional lights. Commissioner Brown was instructed to come up with recommendations on where new lights are needed, and report at a later meeting. Commissioner Stabs reported that Peter B. Brown wanted to clear up the matter of the building permit on garage he built on rear of Lot Lt, Block 37, La Porte. ?~gotion by Stabs, second. by Brown, to issue permit to Nir. Brown. Carried. Discussion was held on the condition of driveways on Iowa c>treet, and it was brought out that NIr. Arthur had been receiving calls from property o~mers wanting to know what is going to be done about this. Commissioner Sta'~s Trill get with Assistant Chief' Allen to look at map on stop signs, and give map to "?r.Arthur, so ttiiat he ca.r_ put ':,iese stop signs in their proper locations. notion ~~y Osl?urn, second by Stabs, that General Liabi_Lity Policy with t~,e La Yorte Insurance Agency be reinstated as nrevi.ously t~*ritten, with the same premium proration, and that liability insurance in the amount of;;50/100,000 on the swimming pool, ~~e included. Carried. motion ?~y Stabs, second by Osburn, giving 3ayshore Plumbing Company the contract to install rough-in plumbing at 1Vorth side recreation center. Carried. Motion by Stabs, second by Broken, that l.he following persons be commissioned as Aux- iliary policemen: I^1m. H. Crawford., David llramlett, '~~a~~ris Evans, E.T. Taylor and Thos. E. ;•~alker. Carried. r~aotion by Stabs, second. by :3ro~m, to grant .P.i G.'adsworth permission to operate a radio at iiou-Port Airport. Carried. '"lotion '~~r Stabs, second by Brown, giving Commissioner Stabs permission to order new traffic tickets. Carried. The matter of heat for new fire station was 'Drought up, and some discussion was held on this, bat no action was taken at this time. Motion by Stabs, second by crown, to appropriate the sum of X300.00 for street Christmas decorations. Carried. notion by Osburn, second by Brehm, that Ordinance No. 433-A, be adoz~ted as read. Carried. rTotion by Brotim, second by Osburn that Estimate No. 6, in the amount of ~31,46~.47, be allowed to Century Construction Co., and Estimates No. 7 and 8, in the amoants of ~52?.t.~9 and w550.6;, plus ;150.00 for re-staking Iowa Street, be allowed to ~ruyatt C, iedrick.
