HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-05-19 Regular Meeting! • MINUTES -REGULAR MEETING LA PORTE CITY COMA'IISSION - MAY 19TH, 1961 7:00 P, M, Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor H, P. Pfeiffer, with the following members present: Commissioners Brown, Stabs, Dunham and Osborn, City Attorney Pitman, Supt, Arthur, and City Clerk Frank G. Baker. Also present were the following from Shady Oaks Addition: Mr. and Mrs. Logan Shuford, Mrs. Oscar Thibodeaux, Mrs. Otis Murray, Mrs. B.R. Cole, Mrs. D. W. Donahoe and Jack Cook, and Mr. and Mrs, L, L. YTestover from Shoreacres. Also, Jim Holley and Mrs. Brummerhop (Press), and Jim Counts, Engineer for Bay Colony. Mirn~tes of`the last meeting were read and approved. Carried. Mr. Jack Cook talked for the group from Shady Oaks and talked at length about their dissatisfaction over the construction of a disposal plant in the area of Shady Oaks, in "Bay Color~y". Mr. Jim Counts came in at this point and assured the group that their fears about the development and sewerage plant are unfounded, and that the developer will take al.l. precau lions to construct the plant according to County and State regulations, Mayor Pfeiffer asked that the bids on mower and tractor be opened. Thy bids were as follows: COOK EQUIPMENT CO,, INC. X6,025.00 HOUSTON POTr~TER EQUIPMENT CO. 4, b96.60 LANSDOWI~-MOODY COMPANY, INC. 5,308.80 Motion by Dunham, second by Stabs, that the bids on tractor and Mower be tabled for fur they consideration and study. Carried. The bids on sewer extension were opened and read, as follows: L. H.(SONNY) MC KEY BAYSHO:~E CONSTRUCTION CO. X2,398.00 2,646.00 Motion by Osborn, second by Dunham, that the bid of L. H. (Sonny) Mc Key be accepted, in the amount of X2,398.00, subject to approval of Attorney on closing of A11ey, Carried. Motion by Dunham, second by Osborn, that the City Clerk be authorized to sell season tickets to the swimming pool now, to be effective June 2nd thru Labor Day, 1961. Carried, Commissioner Osburn was authorized to contact Carlos Smith and secure a price for the preparation of a water and sewer map of the City of La Porte. Motion by Stabs, second by Brown, that Charles F. Burns, Jr., be appointed to Auxiliary Police. Carried. Comnd ssioner Stabs requested that a cattle guard be placed at the entrance to the sewer plant, and also that the Fire Department be given a key. Mr. James Counts presented the plat of Bay Colony for the City Commissions approval. Motion by Osburn, second by Dunham, that Mr. Counts first get the approval of State, County and Flood Control District, on Bay Colony Plat, and then present back to City, before the City approves the Plat. Carried. Mr. Counts presented a rough estimate on proposed fail over Fire Station. Commissioner Stabs suggested that he and Mr. Counts would prepare estimate on building between old City Hall and Gas Compar~r. Motion by Stabs, second by Osburn, that Elmer Grevenberg and Floyd B. Reynolds be com~mi.ssioned Auxili ary Police. Carried. The Commission agreed to let Happy Harbor hold their Board meetings in the City Ha71 Aaeembly Room. Motion by Osborn, second by Brown, that the City Clerk be authorized to borrow $10,000.00 from the La Porte State Bank, to be paid back out of current tax revenues. Carried.
