HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-11-16 Regular Meetingr • • MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING LA PORTS CITY COMMISSION - NOV EMBER 16, 1961 Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor Pro-Tem W.A. Stabs, Jr., with the following members present: Commissioners Osburn, Brown and Dunham, City Attorney Pitman, Supt. Arthur, and Assistant City Clerk Ruth Huddleston. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Carried. A discussion was held on the problem of locating leaks or drainage from gutters going into the sewer system. It had been suggested previously by the Mayor that a letter be placed in the newspaper asking the aid of all people in helping to locate such 'leaks. The Assistant City Clerk was authorized to have such a letter placed in the next copy of the La Porte Liberal. A letter from W~J~ Mc Len, President of the Board of Directors oz" Happy Harbor, was read aloud. I4r. Mc Len asked the approval of the Commission of the waiving of the permit fee for the construction of the new home, soon to be built. City Attorney Pitanan stated thatthe fee could be waived if this amount is not included in the contractor-s bid. Commissioner Stabs will contact Mr. Johnson for this information, and report back to Commission. Motion by Dunham, second by Stabs, to draw Firemen~s prize money, in the amount of X200.00. Carried. Motion by Osburn, second by Dunham, that the regular meeting nights of the City Commission be changed back to the first and third Fridays, beginning December 1,,1961. Carried. Motion by Osburn, second by Dunham, authorizing Attorney Pitman to spend the sum of X250.00 for the purpose of getting all necessary deeds to Block 1126 from Carl Bissell, so that the City can continue with construction. Carried. Ordinance No. 632 was read in full, and upon motion by Dunham, second by Osburn, such or dinance was adopted as read. The caption of such ordinance reads as follows: AId ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC AT A CERTAIN INTE RSECTION ON EAST MAIN STREET IN THE CITY OF LA PORTS, TEXAS; FIXING A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF X200.00; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CON- FLICT THERE[hTITH. Carried. I Ordinance No. 633 was read in full, and upon motion by Osburn, second by Dunham, such ordinance was adopted as read. The caption of such adopted ordinance reads as follows: AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE GIVING OF NOTICE TO BIDDERS AND NOTICE OF INTENTION TO IS SUF~LTIP~ ti•JARR~IVTS OF CITY OF LA PORTS; AND CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS REL.4TIA1G TO 'IrHE SUBJECT.
