P. Pfeiffer, with the following members present: Commissioners Brown, Dunham, Osborn and Stabs, Asstt. Supt. Dick Cunningham, City Attorney C. L, Pitman, and City Clerk Frank Baker. Also present were L, L, Bair, L, A. Derden, Brian R. Scales, Frank H. Newman,Jr., W.W. Scherwitz, J. 0. Rollins and Carlos Smith, Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Carried. Mayor Pfeiffer asked that the bids on asphalt paving be opened. Bids received were as follows : Walter A.Smith X5,394.00 Walter M, Mischer Co, 4,743.00 West Construction Co. 4,464.00 Bids on petroleum products needs for the year were opened and read as follows: Motion by Osborn, second by Stabs, that the petroleum bids be tabled for further study, Carried. Motion by Brown, second by Dunham, that the bid of West Construction Company of Houston, be accepted, and it is so awarded, Carried. Motion by Osborn, second by Dunham, that Estimate #l, from Couch Construction Company in the amount of $18,107.01, be approved. Carried. Motion by Osborn, second by Brown, that Mr. Brown be authorized to proceed to refund revenue bonds (several issues). Carried, The firm of Lockwood, Andrews and Newnan, Inc,, Consulting Engineers, were repre- sented by Mr. Frank Newnan, Jr. and W. W. Scherwitz, who presented their firm to the Commission for consideration in the future planning of the City. Motion by Stabs, seco~id by Dunham, that t11e low bid o~~oleman Construction Cow pany, be awarded for $19,300.00, subject to the acceptance by sated company of the change orders making a contract amount of $14,536.00. Carried. Motion by Stabs, second by Browns that Bill George Walls be appointed to Auxiliary Police and issue a certificate. Carried. Motion by Osborn, second by Dunham, that one man be sent to A. and M. for water and sewer school for one week, at a cost of approximately X80.00. Carried. ~, Motion by Osborn, second by Dunham, that the pur chase of 10 check valves be ratified, in the amount of X220.00. Carried. Motion by Dunham, second by Brown, that Ordinance No. 640 be adopted as read. Caption of such adopted ordinance reads as follows: AN ORDINANCE CALLING TFIE REGULAR ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTS, TEXAS; PROVIDING FOR A POLLING PLACE; APPOINTING ELEC- TION OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR RETURN AND CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE; PROVIDING FOR FILING FEES FOR CAu- DIDATES; AND PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE. -- • Motion by Dunham, second by Brown, that the meeting adjourn. _ -~ ..~ ank G.Baker, i of the City of La Porte, Texas Carried.
