MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING
of the
LA RTE CITY COMM/SS/ON, La FORTE, TEXAS
June. 3, 1963

Commissioners Frank G. Baker, W. A. Stabs, Tom Osburn, Russell
Shepherd.

OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Carlos Smith, City
Engineer; C. L. Pitman, Cify Attorney; Mrs. Betty Willtfs,

1. Minutes of the meeting of May 20, 1963 were
read and approved.

2. Mr. J. W. Copeland appeared before the City
Commission, requesting permission to build an open wire
garbage container along the south stde of his grocery store
at 117 San Jacinto Street. Following recommendattons from
Commissioner Stabs, Carlos Smith and Commissioner Shepherd
regarding fire hazard, zontng restrictions and sanitation
conditions respectively, Mayor Pfeiffer appointed these
three as a Committee to meef with Mr. Copeland to work out
something That would be satisfacfory to all concerned.
3. Milton and Mineola Walker appeared before the
City Commission, requesting permission to move a building
from oufside the City Limits to North Broadway, Lots 25-28,
Block 108, La Porte. Mr. Walker was asked to submit a wrttten
statement of his intentions pertaining to the proposed use
of such building, and the proposed improvements to be made
after tt is moved to the location. The City Commission will
take action as soon as this statement is received by the City
Attorney.

4. Motion was made by Commissioner Shepherd,
seconded by Commissioner Stabs, to pass Ordinance No. 679
on first and final reading. Caption as follows. Motion
carried.
AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING DIRECTOR OF CIVIL DEFENSE FOR
THE CITY OF LA FORTE.

5. Chief H. F. Freeman recommended to the City
Commission that an Ordinance be passed prohibiting inoper-
able parked cars, boats and trailers from being parked or
abandoned on city streets. It was moved by Commissioner
Stabs, seconded by Commissioner Osborn that the Commission
pass an ordinance to this effect. Mayor Pfeiffer instructed
City Attorney Pitman to prepare ordinance for the next meeting.
Motion carried.

6. City Engineer Smith asked the Commission of NEEDS OF SHELL NEAR
their intenttons for shelling areas adjoining Recreation REC. CENTER STUDIED
Center concession stand from "E" Street extension, west of
San Jacinto. Commissioner Baker will check the needs of
this location and authorize work to be done at next regular
meeting.
7. City Attorney Pitman reported to the Commission REPORT ON DEL. TAX
that a total of one hundred eighteen tax suits have been pre- SUITS FILED
pared in connection with collectionof delinquent taxes. Fifty-
seven of these have been filed and City Clerk Clovis Mann has
been nofified. To date $ 5,800.00 has been collected.
8. Motion was made by W. A. Stabs, seconded by
Commissioner Baker, authorizing a settlement of eighty-one
dollars and seventy-seven cents ($ 89.77) for repatrs to
automobile owned by William Shoulders, which was damaged by
the La Porte Fire Truck en route to a fire. Mayor Pfeiffer
instructed City Attorney Pitman to prepare release for Mr.
Shoulders, to be signed before payment is made. Motion
carried.

meeting at the Houston Yacht Club on June 6, at 5:30 p. m.
All agreed to attend.

• 70. Commissioner Stabs made a motion that Jack APPOINTP'ENT OF AUX.
Lee Massey and Robert J. Daniel, having filed required POLICEMEN
applications, be appointed Auxiliary Policemen for the Rt-: JACK MASSEY
City of La Porte. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Baker, F:'.J. DA-',KIEL
and carried.
