Conymissioners Russell Shepherd, Tom Osburn, Lois Compton and W. A. Stabs, Jr. MEMBERS OF THE CG1MM/SS/ON ABSENT: None OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Aftorney Knox Ask ins, Chief of Police H. F. Freeman, City Engineer H. Carlos Smith, Water Superintendent Lyman Cunningham, Street Superintendent Clifford ECiis, and City Clerk Marilyn Kelley. PRESIDING: Mayor Pfeiffer + + + 1. Minutes of the Regular meeting of July 19, 1965 were approved as written. ~ + + + 2. Mr. Gus Roth appeared before the Commission to request that the alley in Block 147 be closed. Mr. Roth was requested~to ask the owner to submit a written request for the closing and further secure letters from the other Utility Companies stating that they have no objection. + + + 3. Mrs. John Wilson thanked the Commission for providing the land for the New Library Building, for giving the public an opportunity to express their desire by voting the bonds, for aiding in securing FederaL~Funds, and for tncluding fhe Library in the 1965=66 Budget. Mayor Pfeiffer accepted the thanks and expressed the Commission's appreciation to the many persons who have been so dedicated to helping to provide adequate Library facilities for La Porte. + + + ..1I~ . ,. r ~ • 4. Mr. R. D. Lawhon, 291 Sovth 99Th Street thanked the Commission for cleantng the drainage ditch near his home, but ask when the project would be completed. The City EngineeP stated that one more load of dirt was needed. He further stated that Mr. Jay Marks has indicated his intentions of providing a shelled parking space at this location. + t + 5. Mr. Dallas Aker stated that they would Cike to get the cemetary in Block 685, La Porte surveyed and cleaned off. The City Engineer was instructed to make an estimate of the equipment needed fo clear the property. t + + 6. Commissioner Osburn made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs and carried that Ordinance . No. 720 be passed on first and final reading. LEVY l NG A TAX OF ,~ 9.75 ON EACH .100.00 OF ASSESSED VALUE OF ALL REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY LOCATED IN THE CITY OF LA PORTS. + + + 7. City Attorney Knox Askins advised the Commission that there is no legal way the Commission can waive any taxes, penalty or interest,,fherefore he would not recommend waiving the penalty and interest on 1959 Taxes covered by the 1951 annexation. + + + 8. Commissioner Stabs made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Shepherd that the regular meeting of Seetember 6, 1965~be changed to September 93, 1965. Motion carried. + + + • • • 9. A motion was made by Commissioner Osburn, seconded by Commissioner Compton authorizing the City Clerk to release to La Porte State Bank .6,000.00 of ' securities held by the City. Motion carried. + + + ' 70. Commissioner Shepherd made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Osburn and carried that Resolution No. 42 be passed on first and final reading. CAPTION: ' A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CLOS/NG OF A PORTION OF POWELL ROAD AND A PORTION OF MIDDLE BAYOU TIMBER- LA FORTE ROAD. + t + 77. A motion was made by Commtssioner Osburn and seconded by Commissioner Stabs that upon receipt of Bond Funds the City Clerk be authorized to pay Cummins, Reed & Clements the Library and Civic Center portion of their Statement f{9, and the Jail portion upon approval of Commissioner Stabs. Motion carried. • + + + ?2. Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Shepherd and carried that the City Clerk be authorized to pay Gulf Oil Corporation ,924.39.
