MEMBERS OF THE CQMMISSION ABSENT: Commisstoner Tom Osburn.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Attorney Knox W. Askins,
and City Clerk Marilyn Kelley.
VISTORS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Commission Walter
Roberson, Elsie Moore, Jack Smith, D. O. Lairs and
Jack Oliphant. '
PRESIDING: Mayor Pfeiffer.

1. Mayor Pfeiffer opened the meeting for the purpose of
holding a public hearing on a request to rezone Block 134,
Town of La Porte from Class "C" Single Family Dwelling to
Class Apartments. He stated that the hearing wars being
taped and everyone would be given an opportunity to speak.
Letters approving the rezoning were received from Mrs.
Helen Arthur, Frank G. Baker, C. R. Norris Realty, and
Bayshore National Bank.
Mr. Fred Westergren presented the request for rezoning.
He discussed the proposed plans and layouts.
Mr. Wolfer Roberson, chairman of the Planning and Zoning
Commission explained the procedures followed when a request
for rezoning is received.
Mayor Pfetffer opened the hearing to persons chosing to
speak in opposition to the rezoning. The -following
spoke: Mr. and Mrs. Gene Mabry, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne D.
Parsons, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Ponder, Mrs. S. R. Barnett,
and Dennis Dunham. It was potnted out that their home
values would be affected, the traffic problems would
increase, a lower class of people would be brought into
the area, sewerage problems would arise, unsightly condi-
tions would exist and the 6afety of the children walking
to and from school would be in danger. Mr. Bryon Moore
stated that he had sold these people homes with the under-
standing that Block 134 was zoned for residential use.

Mayor Pfeiffer closed the hearing stating That as soon
as Commissioner Osburn has had an opportunity to hear
the tape, the Commission wtll meet and make a decision.

2. The City Attorney presented a letter from J. E. Cook,
La Porte Land Company, making a Deed of Gift to the
City, of any claim he might have to Biock 248, Town of
La Porte.
A motion was made by Commissioner Stabs, seconded by
Commissioner Shepherd that the gift be accepted, that
the Cify bare up to $900. of the cost of an appraisal
and that the Cify Clerk be authorized to nottfy
Cummins, Reed and Clements to issue a work order on
the Ctvic Center. Motion carried.
