i • MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING OF THE LA FORTE CITY COMM/SS/ON, LA FORTE, TEXAS March 20, 9967 MEMBERS OF THE CO/~I/SSlON PRESENT: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, Commisstoners Russell Shepherd, W. A. Stabs, Jr., Lois J. Compton, and Charles D. Boyle. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Attorney Knox W. Asktns, City Engineer H. Carlos Smith, Superintendent of Streets CZtfford Ellis, Chief of Police H. F. Freeman, and City Clerk Martlyn Kelley. PRESIDING: H. P. Pfeiffer. + + + 9. The minutes of the Regular meeting of March 6, 9967 were amended as follows: Item No. 2 - To read - "Further, that it be recommended that a member retire from the Board for at least one year before being reappointed." + + + 2. The Ctty Engineer reported that the sewer line in Block 68, Bayfront is bad and also needs extended. He was authorized to make this extenston. + + + 3. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Shepherd, that Lyman Cunningham be authorized to attend Sewerage School, April 3 thru 7, in Waco. Motion carried. + + + 4. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner Shepherd and carried that Ordinance No. 759A be passed on first and final reading. CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE AMENGING PA?AGRAPH F1VE (5) OF SECTION FIVE (5) OF ORDINANCE N0. 759. + + + • 5. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs, that exfra help be employed to work on the 4Yater and Sewer Lab building. Approx. cost, X100.00. Motion carried. + + + 6. A motion was made by Commissioner Stabs, and seconded by Commissioner Stabs, that Marilyn Kelley be authorized to attend Finance Officers School, April 23, 23, 25 in Austin. Motion carried. t + + 7. Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs and carried that the following Accounts Payable be approved: Gulf Coast Electric X650.65 International Paper Company 719.15 Joe Camp Motors 108.65 Machine Records ?73.25 Stephens-Baker Insurance 365.82 + t + 8. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, and seconded by Commissioner Compton, that the purchase of a 3" fire hydrant water meter be approved. Motion carried. + + + 9. Commissioner Stabs made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Shepherd, that the City retease to John Kraak the 16' easment in Block 1158, La Porte. Motion carried. (See Exhibit No. 1). t + t 10. Mr. John Kraak requested that he be allowed to build Boat Sheds to Block 1158. They wits protrued approzimately eight feet into the street right-a-way. Further he understands that they wilt be removed if the street is ever developed. (See Exhibit No. 2}. Commissioner Shepherd made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Compton that Mr. John Kraak be allowed to build the boat sheds provided he has public libility insurance in favor of the City, that an agreement in proper contract form be required, and that he pay a fee of ,10.00 per year. Motion carried. + + + • ~ r 99. The Commission accepted a Letter of resignation from Jack Harris, Chairman of the Housing Authority Board. Mayer Pfeiffer recommended that the Commisston not make another appointment until after the Public Housing Election on April 9, 9967. + + + 92. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Shepherd that the final estimate to Mercer Constructton Company in the amount of X9,234.62, be approved for payment. Motion carried. + + + 93. Commissioner Compton recommended that the City either purchase a street sweeper or contract to have Main Street swept at lease once a week. The City Engineer was instructed to investigate cosfs. + + + 94. The City Engineer reported the foiLowing quotations on fhe cost of mowers: Sears ,$644.00 Kemp & Tony (International) 982.80 La Porte Lawn & Garden (Toro) 889.95 Action was table for study. + + + 15. Mr. Vvalf Baumbach of Arf Simpson Funeral Nome stated that there is a possibility that they will go out of the ambulance business in the near future. He further stated that they will give the City a definite time later, and will give at Least a thirty day notice. Mr. George Lunday stated that he is tnterested in providing ambulance service for the City.
