MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
LA FORTE CITY COMM,/SS/ON, LH FORTE, TEXAS
August 7, 9967
7:00 P. M.
MEMBERS OF THE CC1MM/SS/ON PRESEti'T: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, Commissioners
W. A. Stabs, Jr., Lois J. Compton, and Charles D. Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE COMM/SSiON ABSENT: Commissioner Bobby J. Burgin.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Attorney Knox W, Askins, City
Engineer H. Carlos Smith, Chief of Poltce H. F. Freeman, Superin-
tendent of Streets Clifford Ellis, and City Clerk Marilyn Ke11ey.

9. Minutes of the regular meeting of July 99, 9967 were approved
as written.

2. A general dtscussion of the street paving program was held.
Mayor Pfeiffer stated that Commissioner Burgin made the following
recorrmendation:
"That the assessment rates be X5.00 per front foot, and
.1.75 per side foot, but in no event to exceed the
enhancement value as testified to by the appraiser.
Further, that "A" Street from 3rd to 9th, 9st from
"B" to "G", Polk from Broadway to 9th, and alt of
North 7th, be dropped from the program."
Commissioner Stabs recommemded that the assessment rate per
front foot be lowered to X4.50.
A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, and seconded by Commissioner
Stabs, that the recommendation of Commtssioner Burgin of $9.75 per
side foot be approved, that the front foot rate be lowered to ,4.50,
provided that no assessments exceed to appraiser's testimony.
Motion carried.

3. Mr. George Counts requested that the Commission reconsider paving
"A" Street from 3rd to 4th.

4. The Commission received a letter of recommendation for the
final payment to the Buddy Warren Co., lnc. (See Exhtbtt No. 1).
A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner
Stabs, that the recommendation of the City Attorney be accepted,
wtth the exception of the completion date, and that it be changed
from April 12, 1967 to January 1, 1967. Motion carried.

5. The following bid was received for the sale of surplus items:
Douglas M. Wilson - Coin Counter - X43.00
Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs,
that the bid of .43.00 for the coin counter be accepted. Mottos
carried.

6. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, that the City Engineer be authorized to Zook into the
possible use of used AC pipe, and if necessary re-advertise for
bids for the purchase of 3" AC Pipe. Motion carried.

7. Commtssioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Compton
that the City Engineer be authorized to preceed with the relocation
of the drainage ditch and the construction of the roadway on the
West side of the Airport. Motion carried.

8. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner
Stabs and carried, that bids be received at 7:00 P. M., September
11, 1967, for the painting of the elevated water tank. Motion
carried.

9. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Compton
and carried, that the following meeting dates be changed:
August 21, 1967 fo August 14, 1967
September 4, 1967 to September 11, 1967
October 16, 1967 to October 23, 1967

10. A motion was made by Commissioner Stabs, and seconded by Commissioner
Compton, that the Director of Public Works be authorized to rent
a Maintainer, and further that bids be received at 7:00 P.M.,
September 11, 1967, for the purchase of a new machtne. Motion
carried.

11. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs,
that Dan Kennedy and Rtchard Gates be authorized to attend Meter
Repair School. Motion carried.

12. A motion was made by Commissioner Stabs, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, that the City pay their $50.00 dues to the Houston-
Galveston Area Council. Motion carried.

13. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, and carried, that the following accounts payable be
approved:
