MEMBERS OF THE CGMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, Commissioners W. A. Stabs, Jr., Lois J. Compton, Charles D. Boyle, and Bobby J. Burgin. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None OTHER CITY OFFIC/ALS PRESENT: City Clerk Marilyn Kelley, City Attorney Knox W. Askins, Chief of Police H. F. Freeman, Superintendent of Streets Clifford Ellis, City Engineer H. Carlos Smith, and Fire Chief H. G. Crofoot. PRESIDING: Mayor Pfeiffer. + + + 9. Minutes of the regular meeting of January 8, 1968, were amended to read: Item ,~4 - " A moiton was made by Commissioner Compton, and seconded by Commissioner Boyle, that two Mercury Vapor Lights be installed at the Ohmstede Machine Works location, with Ohmstede assuming the cost for these light." The minutes of the special meeting of January 95, 9968, were approved as written. + + + 2. Mayor E. A. Lemon, of the City of Lomax, requested that the City of La Porte and the City of Lomax work together in securing a street light at the intersection of 26th Street and Spencer Highway. The City Engineer was requested to talk with the Houston Lighting and Power Company. + + + 3. A tabulation of bids for the purchase of the Sack Refuse System was received. (See Exhibit No. 9) After considerable discussion, the City Engineer was requested to prepare a projection of cost, and report at the next regular meeting. + + + • • 4. Commissioner Burgin made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs, that the City Attorney write a letter fo U. S. l., assuring them that the City is willtng to work for Industrial Development and tends their support to the cause. Motion carried. + + + 5. A motion was made by Commissioner Burgin, and seconded by Commissioner Boyle, that Joe Tantillo be approved as a sub-contractor in the Street Paving project. Motion carried. + + + 6. Commissioner Boy 1e made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Burgin, that C. W. Dubose, Estimate No. 1, Job Nom. 2021-Y-66-1, in the amount of X2,634.30, be approved for payment. Motion carried. + + + 7. A motion was made by Commissioner Compton, and seconded by Commissioner Stabs, that the City Engineer proceed with plans and advertising for bids for the construction oa driveways andother parking faciltties at the Ltbrary and Civic Center. Motion carried. + + + 8. CommtssionerBoyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Compton, that bids for the purchase of Underground Electrical Cable, to be used for the installation of Airport lighting, be received at 7:00 P. M., February 5, 1968. Motion carried. + + + 9. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, and seconded by Commissioner Stabs, that Roberts Brothers Construction Company be given an extension of time from November 1, 1967, to January 10, 1968. Motion carried. + + + 10. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs, that the City Engineer be authorized to prepare plans for the modification of the Sewer Treatment Plant. Motion carried. + + + 11. A motion was made by Commissioner States, seconded by Commissioner Burgin and carried, that the following accounts payable be approved: • Eugene Hovey, C.P.A. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Burgin, and carried, that Ordinance No. 7"78 be passed on ftrst and final reading: CAPTION: A ORDINANCF_ VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE ALLEY LYING WITHIN BLOCK ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-NINE (169) IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTS, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. + + + 13. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner Burgin, that the following purchases be approved: Canon Meter Sales X1,080.00 Ati:prox. Flex Rod Pipe Tool Co. 270.C0 Outdoor Equipment Company 468.45 Motion Carried. + + + 14. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs, that the purchase of a sweeper and spreader at X750.00 each, be approved. Motion carried. + + + 15. Bids for the purchase of Steel Refuse Containers were received. (See Exhibit No. 2). The Ctty Engineer was requested to prepare a pick-up schedule and present it to the Commission. + + + • • 76. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Burgin, that the C. W. Dubose contract be extended to replace the water and sewer line on Oakgrove Street.
