MEMBERS OF THE COI~NiISSION PRESENT: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, Commissioners
Lois J. Compton, W. A. Stabs, Jr., and Charles D. Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE CQMM/SS/ON ABSENT: Commissioner Burgin.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Clerk Marilyn Kelley, City Engineer
H. Carlos Smith, City Attorney Knox W. Ask ins, Chief of Police
H. F. Freeman, and Fire Chief H. Gould Crofoot.

1. The minutes of the regular meeting of Aprrl 1, 1968, and the
special meeting of April 8, 1968, were approved as written.

2. Mr. Bernard A. Mc Laughlin, representing St. Mary's Church
requested that the City abandon the water line crossing the
Church property. (See Exhtbtt No. 1).
/t was pointed out that said water line serves as a fire main
for a portion of the area. Action was tabled for a study of
the cost of relocating fire plugs.

3. Mayor Pfeiffer welcomed Mayor Ann Stephenson of the City of
Lomax, and Mayor Clifford Eilis of the Cify of Shoreacres.

4. Commissioner Compton made a motfon, seconded by Commissioner
Boyle, and carried, that Ordinance No. 782 be passed on first and
final reading.

PLANNING AND ZONING COMM/SS/ON; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE

5. CommissionerCompton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Stabs, that the letter on weed cutting notices be approved
as submitted, with minor changes. Commisstoners Compton and
Stabs voted "Yes", with Commissioner Boyle voting "No".
Motion carried. (See Exhibit No. 2).

6. A motion was made by Commissioner Compton, and seconded by
Commissioner Boyle, that that the City authorize a ninety
day trial of the refuse sach system, and that the M,onday-
Thursday route be selected for the ;trial. Commissioner
Compton and Boyle voted "Yes", with Commissioner Stabs voting
"No". Motion carried.

7. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, that bids for the construction of parking area and
sidewalks at the Library and Civic Cente^, be received at
4:30 P.M., May 3, 1968, in the office of the City Clerk.
Motion carried.

8. A motion was made by Corrrrnissioner Compton, and seconded by
Commissioner Boyle, that the City pay Mr. Ray Moser a .12.50
wrecker charge, insured because of street construction.
Motion carried.

9. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs,
that the following Accounts Payable be approved for payment:

T. E. Brown 333.46
Contractors N/aterials 438.65
Pruitt Browning 877.50
Motion carried.

10. A motion was rrzide by Commissioner Compton, and seconded by
Commissioner Stabs, that the purchase of tires, from Goodyear
Service Store, 4 ~ 95.59, X382.36, be approved. Motion carried.

11. Commissioner Stabs made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Corrpton,
that Nerman w. Clark be hired as a patd fireman at a salary .25.00
less than maximum, and that the Chief be authorized to increase
the salary in three months or on his recommendation.

72. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, and seconded by
Commissioner Stabs, that the City Engineer be authorized to
pole the Commission for approval to pay a Gulf Bitulithic
estimate, and to ratify same at the next regular meeting.
Motion carried.

73. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Stabs,
that Delftno Guerrero be increased to X9.85 per hour. Motion
carried.

94. Commissioner Stabs made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Compton,
that the N~ayor be authorized to sign a release of paving lein, on
Lots 2 thru 6, Block 45, Town of La Porte. Motion carried.

The Department of Public Health of the City of La Porte has in-
spected the following described property which the Tax Records
indicate is owned by you, and upon which a public nuisance exists
in the form of weeds and brush:
Ordinance No. 716 of the City of La Porte requires the removal of
weeds, brush, rubbish or other objectionable, unsightly or insani-
tary matter of whatever nature. within ten days from the receipt of
this notice. Upon your failure to remove such weeds or brush, you
are hereby notified that the City may, at once, cause the same to
be done and pay therefor, and charge the cost and expense incurred
in having the work done, to you as owner of the above described
property, and fix a lien thereon for such costs and expenses as
provided by City Ordinance No. 716 and Article 4436, Revised Civil
Statutes.
We wish to further advise that this will be the only notice
will receive this year and mowing of weeds will be requ eri d as
follows:
First mowing - - - - - - On or before May 15, 1968
Second mowing - - - - - On or before July 15, 1968
Third mowing - - - - - - On or before September 15, 1968
Your co-operation in abating this health nuisance will be appre-
ciated by the City of La Porte as well as by the citizens living
in the vicinity of your property. You may obtain names of several
mowing contractors by calling City Hall, GR 1-2222.
