MEM,'BERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, Commissioners
Charles D. Boyle, H. Gould Crofoot, and Lois J. Compton.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: Commissioner Burgin.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Attorney Knox W. Askins, City
Engineer H. Carlos Smith, and City Clerk Marilyn Kelley.
PRESIDING: Mayor 1-'feiffer.
9. The minutes of the regular meeting of May 20, 9968 were amended
as follows:
Item No. 2 - To read - "Commissioner Burgin made a motion,
seconded by Commissioner Crofoot, that the lot be sold to the
only bidder, Willard A. Long, for $100.00. Motion carried."
2. Jay Marks presented a Zett r of request for the use of the West
9' of 90th Street for parking. (See Exhibit No. 9).
A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, and carried, that the West 9' of 90th street be allocated
for parking, as requested.
3. Ken Elliott thanked the Commission for the use of the ball park
for the La Porte 'Women's Softball team, and requested that they
be allowed to use it one night a week for practice, and for the
Fall league.
Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Crofoot, that the Women's Softball team be allowed to use the
ball field for practice and the Fall league, provided it does
ont conflict with the Little League schedule. Motion carried.
4. Commissioner Crofoot made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, and carried, that Ordinance No. 789 be passed on
first and final reading.

5. A motion was made by Commissioner Crofoot, seconded by Commissioner
Boyle, and carried, that Ordinance No. 790 be passed on first and
final reading.

AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
6. The Njayor stated that Pete David's building is in the street.
(See Exhibit No. 2).
The City Engineer was requested to prepare field notes and make
a recommendation to the Commission.
7. Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Crofoot, that the Tax Assessor and Board of Equalization
we instructed to place the property on the tax roll at 80%
of actual value, instead of 42%. Motion carried.
S. The City Clerk was requested to check the taxes on Lot 25,
Block 84, Town of La Porte. (See Exhibit No. 3).
9. A motion was made by Commissioner Compton, seconded by Commissioner
Boyle, that the Commission ratify the payment of Progress Billing
No. 1, West Construction Company, $4,675.00. Motion carried.

10. Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Crofoot, that the Commission accept the Planning and Zoning
Commission recommendation, and hold a public hearing at 7:00 P.M.,
June 24, 1968, to consider the possible rezoning of Lots 1 thru
29, and 39 and 40, Block 204, Town of La Porte from P2 Pesidential
to Commercial, for Nursing Home use only. (See Exhibit No. 4).
Motion carried.
11. A motion was made by Commissioner Crofoot, seconded by Commissioner
Boyle, and carried, that Dewey Walls be given a 60 day temporary
permit for the building on Lots 3 thru 8, Block 201, Town of
La Porte. (See Exhibit No. 5). Motion carried.
12. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Crofoot
and carried, that the following accounts payable be approved:
Trezevant and Cochran 286.93
W. C. DuBose 307.39
White Supply Company 183.56
Rockwell Mfg. Company 304.35
Mabry Foundry Company 106.30
Mabry Foundry Company 1,125.68
Humble Oil & Refining Co. 600.82
13. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, and carried, that the Commission ratify Commissioner
Burgin's action in approving Gulf Bitulithic Company Charge
Order No.3 and Estimate No. 4. Motion carried.
14. Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Boyle,
that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign the final
plat of Brookglen Section 1. !Motion carried.
15. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner
Crofoot, that the City Engineer be authorized to hire W. C. DuBose
to lay the "F" Street water line at $1.00 of foot. Motion carried.
16. Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Crofoot, that the City Engineer be authorized to issue a
purchase order to Gulf Bitulithic Company to pave "E" Street
from San Jacinto Street to 1671 West, width of 401, for $5.90
per sq. yard, approzimately $4,400.00. Motion carried.
17. A special meeting was called for June 13, 1968, to discuss
the Weed Ordinance.
18. The City Attorney recommended that the City hire Paul Pomeroy
to represent the City plainiffs in the Robert Allen Smith law
suit.
A motion was made by Commissioner Crofoot, seconded by Commissioner
6oyle, that Mr. Paul Pomeroy be employed at the following rates:
$250.00 retainer to prepare and file an answer.
$35.00 to $40.00 per hour for time.
;..;250.00 per day for time in trial.
Further, that Mr. Pomeroy be given sole authority in all matters
relating to the Robert Allen Smith case. Motion carried.
THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS AT HAND, THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.
