MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE
LA PORTS CITY COMM/SS/ON, LA FORTE, TEXAS
August 26, 1968
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE CQMMlSS/ON PRESENT: Mayor Pro-Tem Bobby J. Burgin,
Commissioners Charles Boyle, Lois J. Compton, and H. Gould
Crofoot.
MEMBERS OF THE CQMM/SS/ON ABSENT: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer.
OTHER CITY OFF/C/ALS PRESENT: City Clerk Marilyn Kelley, City Attorney
Knox W. Askins.
PRESIDING: Mayor Pro-Tem Burgin.

1. The City Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission held
a joint hearing to consider the re-zoning of the followtng:
Lots 16 thru 32, Block 616, Town of La Porte from R1 Residential
to Commercial.
Block 615 Town of La Porte from R1 Residential to Commercial.
Mr. W. E. Gwatney, Jr. spoke in favor the the re-zoning of Lots
16 thru 32, Block 616, Town of La Porte. He stated that Tex-A-
Mation Engineers, Inc. wish to build at that location.
Fire Chief Jack Oliphant stated that the La Porte Volunteer Fire
Department requested the re-zoning of Block 615, Town of La Porte
to allow the construction of a combination recreation and drtll
building.
No objections were stated to either request.
Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Compton,
that the hearing be closed. Motion carried.

2. A motion was made by Commiss{over Crofoot, seconded by Commissioner
Compton and carried, that Ordinance No. 797 be passed on ftrst
and final reading.
CAPTION:
AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING RATES TO BE CHARGED FOR DISTRIBUTION
AND SALE OF NATURAL GAS WITHIN THE CITY, AND REPEALING ALL
OTHER ORDINANCES Ol? PARTS OF ORCIP~ANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.

3. A motion was made by Commissioner Compton, and seconded by
Commissioner Crofoot, that the City Clerk be authorized to
file charges on the owners of the building located at 927 forth
90th Street and to give the ofhers a ten day notice. Motion
carried.

4. Upon recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission,
Commissioner Crofoot made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Compton, that Lots 97 thru 32, Block 696, Town of La Porte
be re-zoned from R9 Residential to Commercial. Motion carried.

5. After receiving a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning
Commission, Commissioner Compton made a motion, seconded by
Commissioner Boyle, that Block 695 Town of La Porte be re-
zoned from R9 Residenttal to Commercial. Motion carried.

6. Mr. Marvin Casteel requested that the City Commission consider
amending the Firearms Ordinance to allow commercial shooting
ranges.
