OF THE
LA f~RTE CITY COMMISSION, LA AORTE, TEXAS
January 20, 1969
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE COMAISSION PRESENT: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, Commisstoners
Charles O. Boyle, H. G. Crofoot, Bobby J. Burgin, and Lots J.
Compton.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Administrator P. V. Werner, City Clerk
Marilyn Kelley, City Attorney Knox W. Askins, Superintendent of
Streets Citfford EC1is, and Chief of Police N. F. Freeman.
PRESIDING: Mayor Pfeiffer.

1. The minutes of the regular meeting held on January 6, 1969, and the
special meeting held on January 13, 1969, were approved as written.

2. Mr. L. A. Patterson and Mr. C. R. Johnston, representing Southern
Pacific, expressed a desire to put in a railroad car storage yard
and requested that the streets and alleys in Blocks 619, E42, 655,
678, and a portion of 691, Town of La Porte, be closed. They were
advised of the procedures to be followed in regvesfing that streets
and alleys be closed.
A discussion was held regarding the Southern Pacific crosstngs
at Fairmont Parkway and Spencer Highway. Mr. Patterson stated
thaf he felt sure Southern Pacific would be willing to praticipate
in the cost of constructing crossing signals.

3. Mr. Vernon Henry requested that the Commission consider a revtsion
to the Sub-division Ordinance, to allow for 20' building lines instead
of the usual 25'. He submitted suggested wording. (See Exhibif
No. 1).
Mayor Pfeiffer advised Mr. Henry that the Commission would take
his request under advisement.

4. Mr. W. A. Stabs, Jr. requested that the Commission discuss
his fathers water bill adjustment.
Mayor Pfeiffer advised Mr. Stabs that the Commission would
advfse him.

5. Mr. Walter Groda expressed his appreciation to the La Porte
Police Department for the excellanf manner in which they
handled a recent wreck involving his family.

6. A motion was made by Commissioner Crofoot, seconded by
Commissioner Boyle, that the Commission approve contracts
with Harris County for housing of prisoners, and radio rental
for the year of 9969. Motion carried.

7, Commissioner Burgin made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Boyle, and carried, That Ordinance No. 664-D be approved on first and
final reading.

8. A motion wrzs made by Commissioner Crofoot, seconded by Commissioner
Compton and carried, that Ordinance No. 892 be passed on first
and final reading.

AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING FIVE MEMBERS TO THE ELECTRICAL BOARD
OF THE CITY OF LA FORTE, TO SERVE FCR A TEJ~I EXPIRING APRIL 30,
9970.

9. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Compton,
that the City Attorney be authorized to secure a legal opioton
from Paul Strong regarding a settlement with H. Carlos Smith.
Motion carried.

10. A motion was made by Commissioner Compton, seconded by Commissioner
Cre-foot, that the City purchase Block 475 from E. W. Applebe for
$6,500.00, with a $500.00 ernest money contract, with the right to
close within 60 days. Further, that Mayor Pfeiffer be authorized to
request that the Cityof Morgan's Point dieannex Blocks 474 and 475.
Motion carried.
