MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
LA PORTS CITY COMM/SS/ON, LA PORTS, TEXAS
May 19, 1969
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSIaN PRESENT: Mayor H, P. Pfeiffer, Commissioners
Bobby J. Burgin, Charles D. Boyle, H. Gould Crofoot, and
E. A. Thomas.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT; City Administrator P. V. Werner, City
Attorney Knox W. Askins, City Clerk Marilyn Kelley, Chief of
Police H. F. Freeman and Corporation Court Judge George Counts.
PRESIDING: Mayor Pfeiffer.

9. The minutes of the regular meeting held on Nay 5, 1969, were
approved as presented.

2. The Commission and interested citizens held a lenghtly discussion
concerning the request from Southern Pacific Railroad Company,
to close certain streets and alleys.
Commissioner Thomas made a motion, that the Commission deny
the request to close the streets and alleys. The motion
died for lack of a second.

3. Commissioner Crofoot made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Burgin, that the Commission call an election for August 23, 9969,
to consider possible charter amendments. Motion carried.

4. A motion was made by Commissioner Thomas, seconded by Commissioner
Boyle and carried, that the following amendments be recommended,
in addition to the previously named ones:
A. That a new Commissioner be sworn in on the second
Monday instead of the first Monday.
B. That Commissioners be elected to specific duties,
rather than assigned duties.

5. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Crofoot and carried, that Ordinance No. 824 be passed on
Ftrsf and Final reading.

APRIL 30, 1971, BOTH INCLUSIVE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE HEREOF.

6. The City Administrator recommended that the change in water
rates be postponed until Fall.

7. A motion was made by Commissioner Crofoot, seconded by
Commissioner Boyle, that Charles Christensen be appointed
to fill the vacancy on the Board of Adjustment. Motion carried.

8. Commissioner Thomas made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Burgin, that Edgar C. Barlow and Associates be employed to
update the City of La Porte Industrial District Map, at
a fee not to exceed $550.00. Motion carried.

9. A motion was made by Commissioner Boyle, seconded by Commissioner
Burgin and carried, that the City enter into an agreement with
the City of Lomax to provide them with ambulance service at a
fee of $1.00 per capita per month, and Jail and Dispatching
service at a fee of $1.00 per capita, plus cost of meals.
Motion carried.

10. Mrs. Marilyn Kelley presented a letter of resignation as City
Clerk, effective Juty 1, 1969. (See exhibit No. 1).

11. Commissioner Crofoot made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Burgin, that the City purchase the Texas Penal Code and an
annual subscription to the service. Motion carried.

92. A motion was made by Commissioner Crofoot, seconded by
Commissioner Boyle, that the Commission approve a Municipal
Maintenance Agreement with the Sfate of Texas for the
maintenance of Highway 946. Motion carried.

93. Commissioner Boyle made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Burgin, that the Supertntendent of Water and Sewer be authorized
to repair the starter on the well at the warehouse, at an
approximate cost of $550 to $600. Motion carried.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS AT HAND, THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.

submit my resignation as City Clerk, effective July 9, 9969.
