HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-04-10 Special Meeting MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING • OF THE LA PORTS CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTS, TEXAS APRIL 10, 1972 MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor H. Carlos Smith, Commissioners E. A. Thomas, I. J. Kibodeaux, G. E. Sampson and H. Gould Crofoot. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None. OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Dick Brown, City Administrator; Virginia Cline City Clerk; Knox Askins, City Attorney; Robert Cline, director of Public Works and H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police. ALSO PRESENT: Commissioner Elect, Charlie Doug Boyle and • Municipal Court Judge, J. B. Williamson. + + + Invocation was offered by Commissioner Sampson. 1. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Thomas to approve the minutes of the previous meeting of April 3, 1972 as presented. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux, Sampson and Crofoot. NAYS: None. + + + 2. Mayor Smith stated there was one item of business to dispose of before swearing in the new officials. He stated he had talked to Mr. Hovey about a special audit for the books and Mr. Hovey had quoted a • • Special Meeting 4/10/72 - continued • price of #1,200 to $1,500 and he recommended that because of the cost, the special audit be dispensed with, unless the Commission so wants it. Motion by Comm. Thomas, seconded by Comm. Sampson to accept Mayor Smith's recommendation to dispense with the special audit. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux, Sampson and Crofoot. NAYS: None. + + + 3. Judge Williamson administered the oath of office to Mayor Elect E. A. Thomas and then to Commissioners Elect I. J. Kibodeaux and Charlie Doug Boyle. Certificates of election were presented to each of the newly elected officials. • Mayor Thomas presented certificates of appreciation to Mr. Smith and Mr. Crofoot. + + + 4. Mayor Thomas stated he would like for the City Attorney to explain when the newly elected officials take the oath of office and the proceedure for filling a vacancy on the Commission. Mr. Askins read Section 15 of the Charter, explaining how a vacancy is filled and then Section 21 explaining when the newly-elected members qualify and assume the duties of office. Mayor Thomas and members of the Commission expressed their thanks and appreciation to the many visitors present and Mayor Thomas stated there would be a reception in the meeting room of the fire station immediately following the adjournment of the meeting. • + + +
