MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING

LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTE, TEXAS.
MAY 1, 1972
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor E. A. Thomas,
Commissioners C. D. Christensen, I. J. Kibodeaux,
G. E. Sampson and C. D. Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT:Virginia Cline, City Clerk;
James Bradford, Acting Director of Finance; Knox Askins,
City Attorney; Robert Cline, Director of Public Works;
• H. F. Freeman, Jr., Chief of Police.
PRESIDING: Mayor Thomas.

Invocation was offered by Comm. Christensen.
Mayor Thomas welcomed the visitors present.
1. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Boyle
to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of
April 17, 1972 and the special meeting of April 24,
1972 as presented. Motion carried by the following
vote
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Sampson
and Boyle.
NAYS: None.

2. Motion by Comm. Boyle, seconded by Comm. Sampson
to adopt Ordinance No. 924 as read. Motion carried
by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Sampson
and Boyle.
NAYS: None.
CAPTION:
AN ORDINANCE MAKING APPOINTPIENTS TO THE CITY OF
LA PORTE ELECTRICAL BOARD, FOR THE TERM MAY 1,1972
UNTIL APRIL 30, 1974; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE HEREOF.

3. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Sampson
to adopt Ordinance No. 925 as read. Motion carried
by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Sampson
and Boyle.

CAPTION:
AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY
OF LA PORTE AIRPORT COMMISSION, AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.

4. Motion by Comm. Boyle, seconded by Comm. Kibodeaux
to approve the expenditure of $500 for the City
of La Porte's membership fee to the National
Safety council. Motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Sampson
and Boyle.
NAYS: None.

5. Mayor Thomas read bids received April 27, 1972
• for a riding lawnmower. They were:
Yazoo of Texas X1,349.00
Johns Lawnmower 1,249.60

Motion by Comm. Sampson, seconded by Comm. Kibodeaux
to accept the low bid of $1,249.60 from Johns Lawn-
mower Sales. Motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Sampson
and Boyle.
NAYS: None.

6. Mayor Thomas stated only one proposal was received
for the lease purchase of a Tractor Backhoe Loader.
The proposal received from Gardner Machinery Corp.,
was as follows:
PRICE, f.o.b. La Porte $11,965.00
8 months rental $675.00 ~?er mo.
9th month rental (includes $4?9 service charge $7,044.00
Discussion was held on repairing the old machine
at a cost of $2,600.00 and waiting until the
fiscal year of 1972-73 to purchase a new machine.

Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Boyle
to not accept the proposal from Gardner Machinery
and to approve repairing the old machine at a cost
of $2,600.00. Motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Sampson
and Boyle.
NAYS: None.

7. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm.
to approve May 29, 1972 as Memorial Holiday.
carried by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux,
and Boyle .
NAYS: None.

to ratify the date of May 19, 1972 for accepting

bids on water and sewer extension systems in
Fairmont Park West. Motion carried by the
following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Sampson
and Boyle.
NAYS: None.

9. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Christensen
that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
The meeting of the City Commission was adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
