MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING
• OF THE
LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTE, TEXAS
AUGUST 17, 19'72

MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor E. A. Thomas,
Commissioners C. D. Christensen, I. J. Kibodeaux,
G. E. Sampson and C. D. Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry Broussard, Director
of Finance; Virginia aline, City Clerk; Knox Askins,
City Attorney; Robert Cline, Director of Public Works
and H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police.

1. Mayor Thomas stated the special meeting was
called to receive bids for water and sewer
line extensions to thw Wallace Johnson
Garden Walk Townhouse project, the fire
station building in Fairmont Park and for
playground equipment.

2. Bids on the water and sewer line project
were opened. at 7:00 p.m., with the follow-
ing bids received:
G. G. Ross Construction Co. $34,358.00
Hollico Inc. 39,530.50
Sabine Co. 46,918.00
Baytown Utility Corp.. 31,389.40
• McKey Construction Co. 41,005.00

Mayor Thomas stated the bids would be
tabulated by Baytown Engineering and the
contract awarded at the regular commission
meeting, Monday, August 21, 1972.

3. Mayor Thomas stated plans and specifications
for the fire station building were not completed
in time for bids to be submitted on this date,
therefore the bid date would be extended to
August 24, 1972 and bids would be opened at
7:00 p.m., prior to the work shop session.

4. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm.
Sampson to approve Jim Bradford going to Dallas
on August 21, 1972 in regards to the water and
• sewer grant. Motion carried by the following
vote:
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux,
Sampson and Boyle.

5. Mayor Thomas reported to the Commission that
he had attended a meeting on Monday, August 14,
1972 with Mr. Rush, Mr. Smith, Mr. Busch,
Mr. Askins and Mr. Cline regarding the work
being done on the sewer line at the Vista
Baywood apartment project. He stated a
problem with the type of pump that was to
be installed was taken care of, but the
method used on the installation of the sewer
pipe and casing in to the ground was not
according to specifications.
The Commission discussed the project and existing
conditions with Mr. Cline and Mr. Busch.
• Commissioner Kibodeaux recommended that the

inspection department give written notice to
the contractor that the line would have to
be removed and installed according to specifica-
tions.

6. Bids were received at 7:30 p.m., for playground
equipment. They were as follows:
Vaughn and Assoc. X2,662.72
American Playground Device 1,983.55
Paul E. Allen Co.(2 items only) 637.00
Mayor Thomas referred the bids to Comm.
Christensen for tabulation and recommendation
for the regular meeting, August 21, 1972.

• 7. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux-seconded by Comm.
Christensen that the meeting be adjourned.
Motion carried.
The meeting of the City Commission was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
