Thomas, Commissioners C. D. Christensen, A. Uel Price and C. D. Boyle. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: I. J. Kibodeaux. OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry Broussard, Director of Finance; Virginia Cline, City Clerk; Knox Askins, City Attorney; Robert Cline, Director of Public Works and H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police. PRESIDING: Mayor Thomas. + + + Invocation was offered by Comm. Price. 1. Mayor Thomas opened the public hearing on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 1973-74. Mr. Broussard read a recap of the proposed budget, which totaled $1,983,109.00. Mayor Thomas asked if there were any questions or comments pertaining to the budget, and there being none, declared the hearing closed. Price to approve the accounts payable as • presented, a copy of which is attached to and made a part of these minutes. Spradling, 3302 Valley Brook Drive, addressed the Commission in regards to police protection.He stated there were a number of little things that needed attention, such as enforcing city ordinances on abandoned cars, dogs, fireworks vandalism and stop signs. Mr. Spradling stated he thought all complaints should be checked and if the police can't come when called, they should come later. He stated the plastic material is not covered by the city building code, but was as good as the material specified, and to replace it would cost several thousand dollars. CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE SALARY AND EXPENSE ALLOWANCE OF THE FIRE MARSHAL; PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF THREE INSPECTORS BY THE FIRE MARSHAL, AND ESTABLISHING THEIR SALARY; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF PRIOR ORDINANCES TO THE EXTENT OF INCONSISTENCY HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. + + + 9. CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR SUPPORT OF THE GOVERNMNET OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 1973 AND ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 1974, AND LEVYING A TAX OF $ .92 ON EACH $100.00 OF ASSESSED VALUE OF ALL REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN SAID CITY. + + + Ord.
