• MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE
LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTE, TEXAS
DECEMBER 10, 1973
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: E. A. Thomas, Mayor,
Commissioners C.D.Christensen, A. Uel Price and C.~?.Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: Commissioner I.J.Kibodeaux.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry L. Broussard, Director
of Finance; Virginia Cline, City Clerk; Knox Askins, City
Attorney; Robert Cline, Director of Public Works and
• H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police.
PRESIDING: Mayor Thomas.

Invocation was offered by Comm. Christensen.
1. Mayor Thomas opened the Public Hearing on
the proposed annexation of three (3) tracts PUBLIC
of land comprising 2,100 acres; tracts one HEARING
(1) and two (2) being south and west of the
present city limits and tract three (3) being
to the north. Mayor Thomas called the public's
attention to the map on display in the council chambers
and on which the proposed annexation was defined.
It was ascertained that a public notice of this
hearing was published in the official newspaper
of the City on November 27, 1973.

Mayor Thomas stated that opponents of the
annexation would be permitted to speak first,
then any proponents would be permitted to speak.
Mayor Shell E. Martin of the City of Shoreacres
addressed the Commission and read a letter
stating the City of Shoreacres objections to
the annexation. (See Exhibit A)
Mr. J. Cooper Hayden and Mr. James L. Robertson
representing owners of property in tract one
and tract two addressed question opposing the
annexation to the Commission.
Mr. Frank Mueller spoke in opposition of
the annexation of tract three. He stated
his mother owned property in this area and
they could not see any benefits as property
owners by the annexation and questioned the
availability of city services to the area.
• Mayor Thomas asked if there was anyone wishing
to speak in favor of the annexation, and there
being none, declared the public hearing closed.

2. Motion by Comm. Boyle, seconded by Comm. Price
that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
The meeting of the City Commission was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
