Thomas, Commissioners C. D. Christensen, I. J. Kibodeaux, C. D. Boyle and A. Uel Price. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None. OTHER CITY I~FFICALS PRESENT: Larry L. Broussard, Director of Finance; Virginia Cline, City Clerk; Knox Askins, City • Attorney, Robert Cline, Director of Public Works; H.F. Freeman, Chief of Police and A. J. Busch, Jr., City Engineer. PRESIDING: Mayor Thomas. + + + 1. Mayor Thomas called the special meeting to order and stated the purpose of the meeting was to take final action on the pending annexation proceedings, but before the Commission could take action, it was necessary to meet with the City Attorney in executive session to discuss the lawsuit brought against the City of La Porte by the City of Shoreacres regarding the proposed annexation. Motion by Comm. Price, seconded by Comm. Christensen to adjourn the meeting for an executive session with the City Attorney. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Price and Boyle. NAYS: None. • + + + r: Special Meeting 12/17/73 - continued 2. The special meeting of the City Commission was reconvened by Mayor Thomas at 7:18 p.m. + + + 3. Mayor Thomas asked if there was anyone wishing to address the Commission in regards to the proposed annexation. Mr. James Robertson, representing Shindler-Cummins, addressed the Commission and stated his clients owned all of the property west of Highway 146 which was included in the proposed annexation and they felt the annexation was too premature as the City has no immediate plans for the area. He stated his clients could not understand why an area east of the highway was not included in Tract 2 of the annexation. • Ordinance No. 978 was read by the City Attorney. Motion by Comm. Christensen, seconded by Comm. Price to adopt Ordinance No. 978 as read. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Price and Boyle. NAYS: None. CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING ON FINAL READING THE HEREIN- AFTER DESCRIBED TERRITORY TO THE CITY OF LA PORTE, AND EXTENDING THE BOUNDRY LIMITS OF THE SAID CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. + + + • 4. Motion by Comm. Price, seconded by Comm. Christensen to ratify authorizing Mayor Thomas to sell securities having a market value of approximately $9,200.00, which had been donated to the City of La Porte as an anonymous gift and for which proceeds of said • Special Meeting 12/27/73 - continued sale are to be used for future additions to the Library Building. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, Price and Boyle. NAYS: None. + + + • 5. Motion by Comm. Price, seconded by Comm. Christensen that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried unanimously.
