D. Christensen, I. J. Kibodeaux, A. Uel Price and C. D. Boyle. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: Mayor E. A. Thomas. OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry Broussard, Director of Finance; Virginia Cline, City Clerk; Knox Askins, City Attorney and H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police. PRESIDING: Mayor Pro-Tem Boyle. + + + Invocation was offered by Comm. Price. 1. Mayor Pro-Tem Boyle asked if there was anyone present wishing to submit bids for two (2) dump trucks; one (1) garbage truck and two (2) city cars, and there being none, declared the bids closed. A copy of the bids as tabulated is attached to and made a part of these minutes. Motion by Comm. Price, seconded by Comm. Kibodeaux to accept the bids received for tabulation. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux and Price. NAYS: None. Bids recd for dump trucks, garbag= truck and two city cars. Mayor Pro-Tem presented plaques to Buell Hooper Plaques and William Booth commending them for their presented efforts in rescuing Darel Abshire, a two year to Hooper & old child, from a burning camper on January 2, Booth 1974. Mr. Askins read Resolution No. 74-02. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Res. 74-02 Price to adopt Resolution No. 74-02 as read. adopted as Motion carried by the following vote: read AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux and Price. NAYS: None. CAPTION : Res . 74-02 A RESOLUTION COMMENDING WILLIAM L. BOOTH AND Commending BUELL J. HOOPER FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN RESCUING Wm. L. Booth DARELL ABSHIRE FROM A TRUCK FIRE ON JANUARY 2, & B.J.Hooper 1974. for rescuing • child from fire. + + + 3. Public Hearing to Consider Application from Public Mr. Herschel Owen for Taxi Cab Franchise. Hearing for Taxi Mayor Pro-Tem Boyle called the Public Hearing Cab Franchi~ to order and asked the petitioner Mr. Herschel Owen to address the Commission. Mr. Owen stated he had been granted a franchise to operate a taxi service in the City of Morgan's Point and he was receiving from 20 to 25 calls a day for service in La Porte. He stated he would appreciate the chance to operate in La Porte as he felt the business was here. Mayor Pro-Tem Boyle asked if there was anyone present to speak against the application and there being none, declared the hearing closed. Motion by Comm. Price, seconded by Comm. Kibodeaux Taxi cab that Mr. Herschel Owen be granted a franchise to franchise operate a taxi cab service in La Porte. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hart, owners of the La Porte Mr. & Mrs. Taxi Company, were not present for the Public G. Hart Hearing but did arrive at the meeting at 7 : 30 p.m. , owners of and stated they had been informed by the City taxi sere. Clerk that 7:30 was the time of the meeting. address Commission Mr. Hart stated they had some personnel problems but they were getting the service back in operation. + + + 4. Motion by Comm. Price, seconded by Comm. Minutes of Christensen to approve the minutes of the Previous special meeting of January 3, 1974, the Meetings regular meeting of January 7, 1974 and the Apprvoed as special meeting of January 10, 1974 as Presented presented. Accounts Price to approve the accounts payable as payable presented. Motion carried by the follwoing approved as vote : presented AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux and Price. Mrs. Evelyn Kennedy, chairman of the community improvement program of the La Porte Literary Club addressed the Commission in regards to the Club's project of a city wide clean up campaign with their goal being Sylvan Beach Day. She asked the City's help and assistance to make the project successful. Mrs. Evelyn Kennedy ask cooperation of City in Clean-up campaign The Commission assured Mrs. Kennedy of their cooperation in the project. + + + 7. Motion by Comm. Christensen, seconded by Comm. Public Hearng Kibodeaux to call a Public Hearing for 7:00 p.m., for Revenue on February 4, 1974 on Revenue Sharing Budget. Sharing Bdgt. Motion carried by the following vote: called AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux and Price. NAYS: None. • + + + 8. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Representative Christensen that Councilman James Cook, City to HGAC of Deer Park and Councilman Asa Yeamans, City Executive C~ of Alvin, be designated as the City of La Porte's designated representatives to the Executive Committee of the Houston-Galves Area Council for the year of 1974. Chief Freeman stated that the city power supply was struck by lightning and put out of service at the same time when firemen were out on a call and since the emergency power switch has to be operated manually, there was no one available to switch the power over. He asked the Commission to consider the emergency that existed and grant permission to purchase an automatic switchover switch system. The regular meeting of the City Commission Meeting was reconvened by Mayor Pro-Tem Boyle at Reconvened 9:08 p.m. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Meeting Christensen that the meeting be adjourned. Adjourned Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux and Price.
