HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-04-14 Special Meeting~ ~ • MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING OF THE LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTE, TEXAS APRIL 14, 1975 7:00 P.M. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor E. A. Thomas, Commissioners C. D. Christensen, A. Uel Price, C. D. Boyle, Commissioners elect Cline and Love. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: Commissioner Kibodeaux. OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry L. Broussard, Director of Finance; Margie Goyen, City Clerk; Knox Askins, City Attorney; Larry Morton, Director of Pubiic Works; Robert Hall, Assistant Chief of Police; Joe Sease, Fire Chief; D. R. McLaughlin, Fire Marshal. • OTHER CITY OFFICIALS ABSENT: Chief Freeman, attending ambulance school. PRESIDING: Mayor Thomas. + + + 1. CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Thomas called the meeting to order. 2. INVOCATION - The invocation was given by Rev. Wm. J. Commer. + + + • LJ Special Meeting 4/14/75 2 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING. APRIL 7, 1975 - Motion by Commissioner Christensen, seconded by Commissioner Price to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of April 7, 1975, as presented. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Price and Boyle. NAYS: None. ABSENT: Commissioner Kibodeaux. + + + 4. ADMINISTER OATH OF OFFICE TO NEW COMMISSIONERS - The Oath of Office was administered to Mrs. Virginia Cline by Judge J. B. Williamson. The Oath of Office was administered to Mr. Bill Love by Mayor E. A. Thomas. • + + + 5. CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION - Mayor Thomas presented Certificates of Appreciation and Keys to the City to Commissioner Price and Commissioner Christensen and expressed the appreciation of all for their efforts while on the Commission. Commissioner Christensen expressed his pleasure in serving the citizens of La Porte, stating there had been many accomplishments made but there was still a need for many more. + + + 6. LETTER OF APPRECIATION - The City Attorney read a letter from Commissioner Kibodeaux, addressed to Commissioners Christensen and Price, expressing his pleasure and appreciation in working with both, during their terms of office. Commissioner Kibodeaux was attending a meeting to ratify a union contract. • + + + • • Special Meeting 4/14/75 3 7. FAREWELL REMARKS - Commissioner Price expressed his appreciation and pleasure in serving on the Commission; and it would take the diligence of all in the future. He planned to remain in the area and would be heard from again. + + + 8. VACATING OF CHAIRS - Mayor Thomas asked Commissioners Christensen and Price to vacate their chairs and Commissioners Cline and Love to be seated. + + + • 9. ACCEPTANCE OF POSITION - A. Commissioner Cline expressed her appreciation to those who supported her during the election and helped to elect her to her position. She stated that she would try to do what she had been elected to do. B. Commissioner Love expressed his appreciation~to his family and those supporting him and helping to elect him to his position. He further stated that unless prohibited by health reasons, he would be attending all meetings of the Commission; and no church, civic or other organization e+~uld influence him in his decisions regarding the City. He expressed his appreciation to his opponent for the clean campaign. + + + 10. CONSIDER ORDINANCE NO. 1015 APPOINTING MAYOR PRO-TEM After a brief discussion, motion by Commissioner Love, seconded by Commissioner Boyle to table the appointment of the Mayor Pro-Tem until the full commission was present. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners NAYS: None. ABSENT: Commissioner • Love, Cline and Boyle. Kibodeaux. + + + • • Special Meeting 4/14/75 4 11. CONSIDER ORDINANCE NO. 1016 APPOINTING MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION - Motion by Commissioner Cline, seconded by Commissioner Boyle to table the appointing members of the Planning and Zoning Commission until the regular meeting of April 21, 1975. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Love, Cline, and Boyle. NAYS: None. ABSENT: Commissioner Kibodeaux. + + + 12. ADJOURNMENT - Motion by Commissioner Cline, seconded by Commissioner Love that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Love, Cline, and Boyle. NAYS: None.
