MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor E. A. Thomas, Commissioners Bill Love, I. J. Kibodeaux, Virginia Cline, and C. D. Boyle. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None. OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry L. Broussard, Director of Finance; Margie Goyen, City Clerk; Knox Askins, City Attorney; Larry Morton, Director of Public Works; H. F. Freeman,Chief of Police; Joe Sease, Fire Chief; D. R. McLaughlin, Fire Marshal. • OTHER CITY OFFICIALS ABSENT: None. OTHERS PRESENT: Representatives of the Houston Post, Houston Chronicle, and the Bayshore Sun. PRESIDING: Mayor Thomas. + + + 1. CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Thomas called the meeting to order. Mayor Thomas asked the City Clerk if the meeting had been posted according to law. The City Clerk stated that the meeting had been posted and the press notified, since the meeting was called on an emergency basis. + + + c: • Special Called Emergency Meeting 4/24/75 2 2. EXECUTIVE SESSION - VATS - ARTICLE 6252-17, SECTION 2 (G) - Motion by Commissioner Kibodeaux, seconded by Commissioner Love that the meeting recess for an executive session under VATS, Article 6252-17, Section 2 (g). The motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Love, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Boyle. NAYS: None. The meeting recessed at 5:31 P.M. The meeting reconvened at 6:37 P.M. + + + 3. PRESS RELEASE - Mayor Thomas stated that the City had recently become aware of a Charter violation. Although they were not proud of what had to be done, it was the duty of the Commission to uphold the Charter. • Mayor Thomas read a press release, which stated that an employee had been dismissed due to a Charter violation. A copy of said press release is attached and made a part of these minutes. + + + 4. ADJOURNMENT - Motion by Commissioner Kibodeaux, seconded by Commissioner Cline that the meeting adjourn. The motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Love, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Boyle. NAYS: None. La Porte City officials learned of possible improper.• purchasing procedures involving the City's purchase of parts and supplies for use in maintaining City vehicles. The results of the City's investigation were turned over to the Harris County District Attorney's office, for further investi- gation to determine if State criminal statutes have been violated.
