MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE
LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTE, TEXAS
SEPTEMBER 17, 1975

MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor Pro-Tem I. J.
Kibodeaux; Commissioners Bill Love, Virginia Cline and
C. D. Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry L. Broussard,
Director of Finance; Margie Goyen, City Clerk;
H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police.
OTHERS PRESENT: Abie and Lois Sanchez, Erwin Zaal,
J. J. Meza, Al Pena, Dorothy and Norman Neville,
George and Irene Sharp and Mrs. Bertha Cook.

meeting to order.

Commissioner Cline stated that she had invited
Messrs. Meza, Ybarra, and Pena to attend.
There was an extremely lengthy discussion regarding
spending of city funds, hotel accommodations for 85
persons and what specific questions would be asked
and what information would be given to the Valles
Officials.
The following were outlined prior to making the
call to Valles, Mexico:
• 1. Transportation to La Porte must be paid for by
each individual.
2. Individual housing arrangements must be made
except for the City Officials.
3. Five to seven original Officials and their
wives would be entertained by the City Officials
of La Porte.
4. The City was unable to spend tax payers money.
5. Visitors should have insurance before coming
into the U. S.
6. Money must be changed to U. S. dollars before
coming to La Porte. Traveler's Checks in the
Country of Origin would be good.
7. Will Governor be coming?
8. Encourage group to come in busses rather than
individual cars.

9. Motel Rates of $18.00 per day for two double beds,

family of each City Official.
There was a general discussion regarding the purpose
of the Sister City Program; a discussion regarding
housing and the planned entertainment schedule.
After several attempts to complete a call to Valles,
Mexico, the number was finally reached, and the call
completed.

3. PAY ESTIMATE 1 - SMITH ENGINEERING - LIBRARY EXPANSION -
The Director of Finance informed the Commission that
he had a request for payment of Pay Estimate No. 1 of
Smith Engineering in the amount of $3,150.00, which had
been mailed earlier and apparently lost in the mail.
After a brief discussion it was determined that the
bill would be discussed at work shop and a representative
of Reed and Clements should be present to answer any
questions and make recommendation.

4. ADJOURNMENT - Motion by Commissioner Love, seconded
by Commissioner Cline that the meeting adjourn. Motion
carried by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Love, Cline, and Boyle.
NAYS: None.
The meeting adjourned at 10:34 P.M.
