• MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE
LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTE, TEXAS
FEBRUARY 24, 1979
7:30 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor J. J. Meza;
Commissioners John Tomerlin, I. J. Kibodeaux, Virginia Cline, and
Tom C. Simons.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: J. R. Hudgens, City Administrator;
Margie Goyen, City Clerk.
• OTHERS PRESENT: David Fetzer and Pete Fisher of Moroney Beissner
Co., Lou Lawler and Ed Ferguson, election judges, and various
members of the La Porte Capital Improvements Bond Committee.

1. CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Meza called the meeting to order.

2. CANVASS RESULTS OF-BOND ELECTION'AND CONSIDER APP'R'OVING
PROPOSED ORD'INANC'E NO. '1147 - ORDINANCE I3ECLARING RESULTS
OF BOND ELECTION - The results of the bond election were
canvassed and read aloud as follows:
PROPOSITION NO. 1
• FOR THE ISSUANCE OF $2,000,000
SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM TAX BONDS 293 votes
AGAINST THE ISSUANCE OF $2,000,000
SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM TAX BONDS 113 votes

2. CANVASS RESULTS OF BOND ELECTION AND CONSIDER APPROVING
PROPOSED ORDINANCE N0. 1147 (CONTINUED)
PROPOSITION NO. 2
FOR THE ISSUANCE OF $1,250,000
WATERWORKS SYSTEM TAX BONDS 277 votes
AGAINST THE ISSUANCE OF $1,250,000
WATERWORKS SYSTEM TAX BONDS 115 votes

After proposed Ordinance No. 1147 was read in full, motion
by Commissioner Kibodeaux, seconded by Commissioner Simons
to approve Ordinance No. 1147 as read, declaring the results
of the election. Motion carried by the following votes.
AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, Simons,
and Mayor Meza.
NAYES: None.
• CAPTION: ORDINANCE CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS
OF BOND ELECTION AND .DECLARING THAT SAID ORDINANCE SHALL BE
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UPON ITS ADOPTION.

3. ADMINISTRATIVE' REPORTS - None.

4. CDUNCTL ACTION - Commissioner Tomerlin expressed his appreciation
to all those that worked on the bond election.
Commissioner Kibodeaux expressed his appreciation for all the
work on the bond election.
Commissioner Cline stated that she felt Martha Rose and her
telephone committee had done an outstanding job.
Commissioner Simons expressed his appreciation and further
stated that if it had not been for the girls, the voters would
• not have been out.

4. COMMISSION ACTION (CONTINUED)
Mayor Meza expressed his appreciation to Bob Cline, as chairman
of the Capital Improvements Bond Committee; Charlie Boyle, for
public relations; Martha Rose, telephone committee, Lou Lawler,
election judge at High School; Ed Ferguson, election judge at
Baker School; City Clerk, for absentee voting.
Mayor Meza invited everyone to attend a reception at his home,
10310 Winding Trail.

5. EXECUTIVE SESSION - V.A.T.S. - ARTICLE 6252-17 - SECTION 2 -
(E), (F), AND (G - (LEGAL, LAND ACQUISITION AND PERSONNEL) -
None.

• 6. ADJOURNMENT - Motion by Commissioner Cline, seconded by
Commissioner Tomerlin that the meeting adjourn. Motion
carried by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Simons.
NAYS: None.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
