Meza; Commissioners John Tomerlin, I. J. Kibodeaux, Virginia Cline, and Tom C. Simons. MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None. OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: J. R. Hudgens, City Administrator; Margie Goyen, City Clerk; H. F. Freeman., Chief of Police; Knox Askins, City Attorney; Paul Hickenbottom, Fire Inspector; and Gail Hamilton, Assistant City Attorney. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING - JULY 11, 1979 - Motion by Commissioner Cline, seconded by Commissioner Tomerlin to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of July 11, 1979, as presented. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Simons. NAYS: None. + + + 4. CONSIDER APPROVING PROPOSED ORDINANCE N0. 1162 - ORDINANCE DECLARING BUILDINGS TO BE DANGEROUS AND AUTHORIZING DEMOLITION - After the proposed ordinance was read in full, motion by Commissioner Tomerlin, seconded by Commissioner Kibodeaux to approve Ordinance No. 1162 as read. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Simons. NAYS: None. • CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE BUILDING LOCATED ON LOT NINE (9), BLOCK TWO (2), OAKHURST ADDITION, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, TO BE IN FACT A NUISANCE; ORDERING SUCH BUILDING CONDEMNED; FINDING THAT ROY RODRIGUEZ, JR. IS THE RECORD OWNER OF SAID PROPERTY: ORDERING THE SAID OWNER TO COMMENCE SAID REMOVAL OR DEMOLITION WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS FROM THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE; ORDERING-THE FIRE CHIEF TO PLACE A NOTICE ON SAID BUILDING; ORDERING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD A COPY OF THIS ORDINANCE TO SAID OWNER; PROVIDING FOR THE REMOVAL OF SAID PREMISES BY THE CITY OF LA PORTE IF NOT REMOVED BY SAID OWNER; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. -0- B. SHORES, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, TO BE IN FACT A NUISANCr; ORDERING SUCH BUILDING CONDEMNED; FINDING THAT PERCY FOREMAN IS THE RECORD OWNER -0F SAID PROPERTY; ORDERING THE SAID OWNER TO ENTIRELY REMOVE OR TEAR DOWN SUCH. CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE BUILDING LOCATED ON LOT FOUR (4), PART OF FIVE (5), BLOCK THREE (3), OAKHURST ADDITION, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, TO BE IN FACT A NUISANCE; ORDERING SUCH BUILDING CONDEMNED; FINDING THAT MRS. KARL L. NAYS: None. • • Regular Meeting 7/18/79 4 CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE-DECLARING THE BUILDING LOCATED ON LOTS THIRTY-FOUR (34) AND THIRTY-FIVE (35), BLOCK SIXTY-EIGHT (68), BAYFRONT ADDITION, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, TO BE IN FACT A NUISANCE; ORDERING SUCH BUILDING CONDEMNED; FINDING THAT DANIEL BURNS IS THE RECORD OWNER OF SAID PROPERTY; ORDERING THE SAID OWNER TO ENTIRELY REMOVE DR TEAR DOWN SUCH BUILDING;ORDERING THE SAID OWNER TO COMMENCE SAID REMOVAL OR DEMOLITION WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS FROM THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE ORDERING THE FIRE CHIEF TO PLACE A NOTICE ON SAID BUILDING; ORDERING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD A COPY OF THIS ORDINANCE TO SAID OWNER; PROVIDING FOR THE REMOVAL OF SAID PREMISES BY THE CITY OF LA PORTE IF NOT REMOVED BY SAID OWNER; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. + + + 5. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS - A. Need for roof repairs at Fire Station No. 1 - The Administrator informed the Commission of an estimate to repair the roof of the No. 1 Fire Station, received from Davis Brothers, in the amount of $3,699.00. • After a discussion regarding the possible .need to put a new roof on the No. 1 Fire Station, motion by Commissioner Simons, seconded by Commissioner Tomerlin to authorize advertising for bids. Motion carried by .the following vote: AYES: .Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Simons. NAYS: None. B. The Administrator requested an executive session to discuss contractural matters. + + + 6. COUNCIL ACTION - Commissioner Tomerlin expressed appreciation for the help with the pool. Commissioner Cline reported on a trip to Austin for a one-day seminar on the Peveto Bill attended by the Administrator, the Tax Assessor-Collector and herself. She further stated that the seminar was of benefit, but there was much disagreement on how the bill will work. However, it is law and it has to be implemented. The State will finance the tax committee made up representatives • from the different entities, for the first two years. Did not see where the Peveto Bill was tax reform. • • Regular Meeting 7/18/79 5 7. EXECUTIVE SESSION - V.A.T.S. - ARTICLE 6252-17 - SECTION 2 - (E), (F , AND G - (LEGAL, LAND ACQUISITION AND PERSONNEL) - Motion by Commissioner Kibodeaux, seconded by Commissioner Tomerlin that the meeting recess for an executive session. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Simons. NAYS: None. The meeting recessed at 7:24 P.M. The meeting reconvened at 7:27 P.M. + + + 8. ADJOURNMENT - Motion by Commissioner Tomerlin, seconded by Commissioner Cline that the meeting adjourn.
