HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-09-10 Special Called Meeting• • MINUTES - SPECIAL CALLED MEETING LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL - LA PORTE, TEXAS SEPTEMBER 10, 1980 Meeting called to order at 7:25 by Mayor J.J. Meza. MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Meza, Councilmen John Tomerlin, I.J. Kibodeaux, Councilwoman Virginia Cline, Councilmen Tom Simons and Norman Malone. OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Manager James Hudgens, City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Betty Waters, Police Chief H.F. Freeman, Public Works Director Jerry Hodge, Chief Inspector David Paulissen, Fire Marshal Paul Hickenbottom, and nine other members of the police department. OTHERS PRESENT: Johnny Bush of Bush Hutchison; H. Carlos Smith and Fred Beck of Smith Engineers; Jim Chapman of the Bayshore Sun; Fred and Linda Westergren, John Kiibler and 16 other visit- ors. • City Council reviewed the request by John Kiibler Jr. to close and abandon the T shaped alley on Block 1110, Town of La Porte. The City Attorney, upon finding all in order, asked i~ a check had been received in the amount of 75% of the assessed valuation as rendered by E.I. Tarin & Company, Real Estate Appraisers. Mr. Kiibler stated if it was permisable he would present the City with a certified check in the amount of $3,150.00 before noon on the 11th day of September. MOTTON'WAS''MADE BY'COUNCTLMAN TOMERLTN TO ADOPT ORDINANCE #1227, seconded by Councilman Kibodeaux. The motion carried 4-ayes and 0-nays. AYES: Councilmen Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Councilwoman Cline, and Councilman Simons. NAYS: None Motion was made by Councilman Tomerlin to adjourn the Special Called Meeting, seconded by Councilman Kibodeaux. Meza, Mayor • ORDINANCE NO. 1227 C~ AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING ALL OF THE ALLEYS IN BLOCK ELEVEN HUNDRED TEN (1110), IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. WHEREAS, the said alleys in Block Eleven Hundred Ten (1110) of the Town of La Porte have never been opened or used as public thoroughfares, and the public utilities now making use of such alleys have all given their written consent for their closings; and 'r~iiEvGt», 'the City Council of the City of La Porte has de- termined and does hereby find, determine and declare that the said alleys are not suitable, needed, or beneficial to the public as public alleys, and should be vacated, abandoned and permanently closed; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: Section 1. The alleys located in Block Eleven Hundred Ten (1110) of the TOWN OF LA PORTE, Harris County, Texas, are hereby premanently vacated, abandoned and closed by the City of La Porte. Section 2.
