Mayor Cline read: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, AUTHORIZING AN APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE CITY OF LA PORTE TO THE TEXAS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM EMERGENCY/DISCRETIONARY FUND, FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN HURRICANE ALICIA STORM DAMAGE TO THE CITY OF LA PORTE Motion was made. by Councilperson Skelto Resolution 83-16 as read by the Mayor. Westergren.. The motion carried, 7 ayes to a Secon e and adopt Councilperson and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Pfeiffer, Gay, Skelton, Westergren, Malone, Longley and Mayor Cline Nays: None 3. Respectfully submitted: Cherie Black Assistant City Secretary • Passe & Approved this the 7t d of Sep,~tem~ber, 1983 JVirginia Cline, Mayor • • • RESOLUTION NO. 83-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, AUTHOR- IZING AN APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE CITY OF LA PORTE TO THE TEXAS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM EMERGENCY/ DISCRETIONARY FUND, FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN HURRICANE ALICIA STORM DAMAGE TO THE CITY OF LA PORTE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: Section 1. The City Council of the City of La Porte finds, determines and declares that the City of La Porte and its resi- dents have incurred, and will incur, substantial costs, estimated to be in excess of One Million Dollars ( $1, 000, 000.00) , to clean up brush and debris, and to repair damaged public facilities, as • a result of Hurricane Alicia. Section 2. The City of La Porte has applied for a One Million Dollar ( $1, 000, 000.00) grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and it is anticipated that the Federal Emer- gency Management Agency (FEMA) will pay seventy-five per cent (75~), or Seven Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($750, 000.00), of the One Million Dollar ( $1, 000, 000.00) estimated cost to the City of La Porte. The City Council of the City of La Porte hereby authorizes Jack Owen, City Manager of the City of La Porte, to execute and deliver all necessary docume nts on behalf of the City of La Porte, to the Texas Community Development Program Emergency/Discretonary Fund, to apply for a grant of Two Hundred Fifty Thousand ]bllars ($250,000.00), to cover the remaining twenty-f ive per cent ( 2 5$ ) of the City of La Porte' s estimated cost of cleanup and repair. The City Manager is authorized to make all appropriate f flings with the Texas Department of Com- munity Affairs, and the Houston-Galveston Area Council Regional Review Committee, and any other appropriate agencies, for f inan- cial assistance.
