MINUTES OF THE CALLED WORKSHOP MEETING
LA PORTS CITY COUNCIL
JULY 20, 1987
1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M.
Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone,
Councilpersons Betty Waters, John Lloyd, Ed Matuszak, Alton
Porter, Mike Shipp, Deotis Gay (arrived at 6:05), B. Don
Skelton, Jerry Clarke
Members of City Council Absent: None
Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera,
City Secretary Cherie Black, Assistant City Manager John
Joerns, Assistant to the City Manager Janie Luna, Police
Chief Charles Smith, Director of Public Works Steve Gillett,
Director of Parks and Recreation Stan Sherwood, Human
Resources Manager Doug de la Morena, Fire Chief Joe Sease,
Finance Manager Robert Stewart, Revenue Controller Charlene
Eldridge, Director of Community Development Joel Albrecht
Others Present: Two citizens
The City Manager introduced Joel Albrecht, who has joined
staff as Director of Community Development. Council welcomed
Mr. Albrecht to the City.
2. Council adjourned into executive session at 6:05 P.M. to
discuss the following:
A. Personnel Discuss proposed salary structures with City
Manager
Discuss vacancy on La Porte Area Water
Authority
B. Personnel Discuss La Porte's nominee for Port of Houston
Commissioner
Council returned to the Council table at 9:31 P.M.
3. Council considered a resolution appointing a nominee for Port
Commissioners to the Harris County Mayors' and Councils'
Association screening committee.

Motion was made by Councilperson LJaters to table this item
until more applicants could be interviewed. Second by
Councilperson Skelton. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0
nays.
Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Lloyd, Matuszak, Porter, Shipp,
Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone
Nays: None
4. Council then re-entered into a budget workshop until 10:30
P.M.
5. The workshop being completed, the meeting duly adjourned at
10:30 P.M.
