If during the course of the meeting covered by this agenda the

ORDINANCE APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE
CITY OF LA PORTE AND GTE CUSTOMER NETWORKS, FOR PURCHASE AND
INSTALLATION OF A TELEPHONE SYSTEM FOR THE NEW MUNICIPAL COURT
LOCATION; APPROPRIATING $8,000.00 TO FUND SAID CONTRACT;
MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE

Summary
Ordinance
A telephone system is required for the new Municipal Court location. The system
indicated on the attached exhibit will be furnished by GTE as a sole source
vendor and will be compatible with existing telephone system within the City.
Recommendation
'fhe Court Department recommends that GTE Customer Networks be named a sole
source vendor and that Council authorize purchase of telephone system for the
Municipal Court location from GTE Customer Networks. Estimated initial cost of
this system is $8,000.00. In addition, there will be a charge of approximately
$650.00 per month and maintenance fees of approximately $600.00 per year which
will be included in Court's operational budget.
Action Required by Council:
Approve or reject the recommendation to name GTE Customer Networks as sole
source vendor. If approved, authorized expenditure not to exceed $8,000.00 for
the installation.

OF LA PORTE AND GTE CUSTOMER NETWORKS, FOR PURCHASE AND

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE:
Section 1. The City Council hereby approves and authorizes
the contract, agreement, or other undertaking described in the
title of this ordinance, in substantially the form as shown in the
document which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by this
reference. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute such
document and all related documents on behalf of the City of La
Porte. The City Secretary is hereby authorized to attest to all
such signatures and to affix the seal of the City to all such
documents. City Council appropriates the sum of $8,000.00 from
the Capital Improvement Fund Account No. 015-688-200-780 to fund
said contract.
Section 2. The City Council officially finds, determines,
recites, and declares that a sufficient written notice of the date,
hour, place and subject of this meeting of the City Council was
posted at a place convenient to the public at the City Hall of the
City for the time required by law preceding this meeting, as
required by the Open Meetings Law, Article 6252-17, Texas Revised
Civil Statutes Annotated; and that this meeting has been open to
the public as required by law at all times during which this
ordinance and the subject matter thereof has been discussed,
considered and formally acted upon. The City Council further

BIIHJ: MUNICIPAL COURT PHONE SYSTEM
The Municipal Court phone system is a sole source item from GTE in
order to be compatible with the existing phone system used by the
City. The system quoted by GTE includes eight (8) users, five (5)
rotary lines, and voice mail (which would be available at the
user's request). Also this system will implement direct inward
dial (DID), which allows extension numbers to be accessed directly
from outside lines.
Estimated initial cost of this system is $8,000.00, with an
additional $650.00 monthly fee. Maintenance fees should not exceed
$600.00 per year.

As an alternative to the options bid for filing the warrants, there
are self-stacking corrugated boxes with a steel frame. Once they
are stacked, they build into a solid, durable filing system. They
are available in the required size, with inside dimensions being
9"W x 4-1/2"H x 24"L, for an estimated cost of $20.00 per unit.
