HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-13-24 CC minutesMINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE The City Council of the City of La Porte met in a regular meeting on July 13, 2024, at the City Hall Council Chambers, 604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas, at 12:30 p.m. Councilpersons Present: Brandon Lunsford, Brent McCaulley, Bill Bentley, Rick Helton, Jay Martin Councilpersons Attending Remotely: Mandi Williams, Chuck Engelken Councilpersons Absent: Robbie McLarrin Council -appointed Officers Present: Corby Alexander, City Manager; Clark T. Askins, City Attorney; Lee Woodward, City Secretary 1. CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Helton called the meeting to order at 12:37 p.m. 2. CITIZEN COMMENT (Generally limited to five minutes perperson; in accordance with state law, the time may be reduced if there is a high number of speakers or other considerations.) Lisa Wright thanked the City for its storm efforts, encouraged an 'attitude of gratitude', and said she planned to coordinate on outreach effort to serve linemen who have been working in the community. 3. STATUTORYAGENDA a. Extension of the July 7, 2024, Disaster Declaration - Presentation, discussion, and possible action to approve an extension of the July 7, 2024, Disaster Declaration for the City of La Porte, Texas, issued by Mayor Rick Helton in connection with Hurricane Beryl. [Corby Alexander, City Manager] Councilperson McCaulley moved to adopt Resolution 2024-14, approving an adopted. 8-0. b. Permit fees waivers for Hurricane Beryl -related items - Presentation, discussion, and possible action to adopt Ordinance 2024-3999, for the purpose of 1) suspending all permitfees forwork necessitated by Hurricane Beryl and 2) suspending permit requirements for repairs to or reconstruction of fences necessitated by Hurricane Beryl. COUNCIL COMMENT Hear announcements concerning matters appearing on the agenda; items of community interest; and/or inquiries of staff regarding specific factual information or existing policy from the Mayor, Councilpersons, and City staff, for which no formal action will be discussed. Councilpersons expressed appreciation for the community - residents, Council, and staff - for the efforts throughout the week and recognized the difficulties for those still
