SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF CITY MANAGER SELECTION PROCESS COMMITTEE TO BE
HELD SEPTEMBER 8TH, IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF CITY HALL, 604 W. FAIRMONT
PARKWAY, LAPORTE, TEXAS, BEGINNING AT 7:00A.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Alton Porter at 7:05 a.m.
Members Present: Mayor Alton Porter, Council members Tommy Moser,
Chuck Engelken and Howard Ebow
Staff Present: City Secretary Martha Gillett
2. DISCUSS RECRUITMENT PROCESS AND TIME TABLE FOR SELECTION OF A CITY
MANAGER
The committee discussed the process and developed a recruitment ad. The ad
will be published on TML, NLC, IIMC and TMCA's websites.
In addition, staff will prepare a brochure to be utilized in recruitment efforts
including the upcoming TML conference.
Attached is a copy of the ad.
The committee agreed to meet again, Thursday, September 14 at 6:30 p.m.
3. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.

however, no action will be taken.
CITY OF LA PORTE - CITY MANAGER
Position Description: The City of La Porte, a Home Rule City with a population of
35,000, located on Galveston Bay, 20 miles southeast of Houston and 10 miles from Nasa
Space Center, is seeking an experienced public administration professional to lead the
City's management team. La Porte is a dynamic, growing community with a unique
blend of residential, commercial, petrochemical industry base, historic main street district
and fishinglboating/golfing opportunities. The City has a general fund budget of 28
million and a total budget of 54 million. 379 full-time and 60 part-time/seasonal
employees. The requirements are a BA/BS degree and a minimum of 7 years public
administration experience. Master's degree a plus. Ideal candidate will have a strong
customer service orientation, financial and budgeting ability. Ability to work with Mayor
and eight Council members in carrying out policies, preparing budget, economic
development and keeping the Council informed. Excellent salary and benefit package
including TMRS 7% 2 to 1 matching. Salary commensurate on experience and
