Fairmont Parkway La Porte, Texas 77571 Chairman, Keith Trainer Commissioner, Larry Cox Commissioner, Les Bird Director, Robert Swanagan Off: 281-470-5025 Police Civil Service Meeting Minutes 05/10/2007 1. At 4:47 pm the Police Civil Service Commission Meeting was called to order by Commission Chairman Keith Trainer. Commission members in attendance: Commission Chair, Mr. Keith Trainer Vice-Chair, Mr. Les Bird Commissioner, Mr. Larry Cox. Others in attendance: City Attorney, Clark Askins Police Chief Richard Reff Civil Service Director, Robert Swanagan. 2. Consider approval of minutes from the April 9, 2007 meeting. The Commissioners reviewed the 04/0912007 meeting minutes. Motion was made by Commissioner Les Bird to accept the meeting minutes as written. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Larry Cox. The motion carried. 3. Consider approval or other action to change La Porte Police Civil Service Rules and Regulations to allow Civil Service test candidates to provide notice of intention to take test through email transmission. Chief Reff requested the Commission consider a modification of section 10.10 of La Porte's Civil Service rules to allow Officer's to provide their notice of written consent through the email system. It would make it easier for Officer on all shift to provide the necessary notification of intent and would further provide a tracking mechanism indicating date and time receive and the return acknowledgement from the Civil Service Director. This change would add "...in person or via Email to the Civil Service Director City Email Account." After discussion the Commissioner Larry Cox made a motion that the change to Section 10.10 be adopted and incorporated in the La Porte Civil Service Rules. The motion was seconded and the motion carried (copy of Section 10.10 attached). 4. Consider approval or other action regarding certification of Sergeants and Lieutenants promotional eligibility lists. 1 ~,.~ Civil Service Director Robert Swanagan provided the Commissioners a letter certifying the results of the Civil Service Promotional Examination for Sergeant on April 12, 2007 and Lieutenant on April 13, 2007. Attached to the certification letter was the scores and ranking of the two examinations. After reviewing the certification letter and scores Commissioner Les Bird made the motion that the results of the test should be certified and posted consistent with La Porte Civil Service Rules. Commissioner Larry Cox seconded the motion and the motion carried. This established the promotional list for each rank for a period of one year. (Copies of the certification letter and fmdings attached) 5. Commission Comments. The Commissioners were pleased with the results of the promotional exam and wished those who would be promoted through these exams the best of luck. 6. Administrative Report.
