1. Call to order.
Meeting called to order by Planning Director Tim Tietjens at 6:12 p.m.
3. Introduction of committee members and staff.
Mr. Tietjens welcomed everyone and presented a brief overview of the 2010 Census.
Mr. Tietjens introduced staff members Masood Malik, who will serve as Program Administrator
and Peggy Lee, who will help coordinate program activities. Yvonne Moore, Partnership
Specialist for the Census Bureau is the City's liaison for the 2010 Census.
Committee members provided a brief description of their group affiliations/community
connections:
Susan Robinson, Census Bureau enumerator
TJ. Walker, lives in Lomax area; looking forward to serving on the committee
Herman Berges, active with Cemetery Association
Vickie Campise, antique business owner
Jeanne Zemanek, 2000 Census committee member
Sherry Lowe, Community Service Director for Rotary Club, active with Civic Club
Paula Swearingen, works with Neighborhood Center
Don Hill, involved with Inter-Church Council
Earl Ehlers works with Harris County, Precinct 2 Parks
Charlie Perry, active with Civic Club
3. Overview of the roles and responsibilities of the Complete Count Committee (CCC).
Yvonne Moore showed a brief informational video and slide presentation. Ms. Moore educated
the committee on the purpose of the census and spoke on the importance of La Porte obtaining
an accurate count of its citizenry/residents.

The committee suggested sharing information with the Cities of Shoreacres and Morgan's Point
to help get the word out.
Members were provided an informational packet along with a census bag containing sample
promotional items. It was suggested that stickers be included as one of the handouts.
Charlie Perry nominated Don Hill as Chairman; Herman Berges seconded the nomination. All
present were in favor; Mr. Hill accepted the role of Chairman.
Paula Swearingen nominated Charlie Perry as Vice-Chairman; Don Hill seconded the nomination.
All were in favor; Mr. Perry accepted the role of Vice-Chairman.
It was suggested the committee set-up a booth at the back-to-school health fair being held at
the high school during the month of August. Ms. Moore offered to provide hand-outs for the
event, although her supply is limited.
Ms. Moore will have a clerical staff person available to help support the Committee as needed.
Formation of subcommittees will be discussed at the next meeting.
E-mail will be the most efficient method of communication between the City and committee
members.
4. Discuss meeting schedule.
The committee agreed to convene in the Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of
each month. The next meeting is scheduled for August 4th.
