1. Call to order.
Meeting called to order by Chairman Don Hill at 6:00 p.m.
2. Roll call of members.
Members in attendance for roll call were Herman Berges, Susan Robinson, Jeanne Zemanek, Vickie Campise,
Don Hill, and Ernest Escobar. Mr. Escobar has been unable to attend any of the previous meetings, due to his
work schedule. Mr. Escobar has lived in La Porte approximately 20 years. His daughter, Rachel, currently
attending USC, is a well known singer.
At the request of Chairman Hill, Census Bureau Partnership Assistant Desirae Renteria spoke briefly to the
Committee about the Importance of the Census.
3. Consider approval of September 1, 2009, meeting minutes.
Motion by Jeanne Zemanek to approve the September I, 2009, meeting minutes. Second by Herman Berges.
The minutes were approved as presented with all in favor.
4. Discuss plans to participate in community fall festivals, including the Fall Back Festival. October 10, 2009.
The Committee is sponsoring a booth at the Fall Back Festival on Saturday October 10 from 2 p.m. - 11 p.m.
Members signed up to work the booth in shifts. Ms. Renteria plans to attend the event and will bring with her
all of the necessary handouts. Ms. Renteria will also try to get Census nametags and t-shirts for the volunteers
to wear.
The Qty will provide bottled water for the booth workers. Mr. Malik will bring the water and help set-up the
booth.
Mr. Escobar offered to bring his antique pick-up to the event as a way to draw the public's attention to the
Census booth. If it turns out the pick-up cannot be used, then he offered to make it available for future events.

Mr. Hill spoke about how with each event, the Committee gains more experience interacting with the public in a
way that best delivers the Census message.
5. Discuss change of location for November 3,2009, meeting.
Instead of changing the meeting location for the regularly scheduled meeting on November 3rd due to the
Election, the Committee decided to re-schedule the meeting for Tuesday, November 10th.

A. Matters appearing on agenda
Minutes: Mr. Berges asked if the Committee could receive minutes from the meeting any sooner. Ms.
Lee will distribute the minutes to the Committee just as soon as they can be drafted after the meeting.
B. Inquiry of staff regarding specific factual information or existing policy.
None.
8. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
