Call to order. Meeting called to order by Chairman Don Hill at 6:00 p.m. 2. Roll call of members. Members in attendance for roll call were Don Hill, Herman Berges, Susan Robinson, T. J. Walker, Vickie Campise, and Jeanne Zemanek. 3. Consider approval of October 6, 2009, meeting minutes. Motion by Jeanne Zemanek to approve the October 6,2009, meeting minutes. Second by Vickie Campise. The minutes were approved as presented with all in favor. 4. Discuss 1-2 Committee Members serving on "Southern Texas Partners" panel in Galveston, Texas, on November 13, 2009. Chairman Hill will serve on the panel for Southern Texas Partners in Galveston on November 13th. Herman Berges may also attend; he will check his schedule. S. Discuss possible locations for Be Counted (Be) and/or Questionnaire Assistance Centers (QAe) within the City. The Committee discussed possible areas where assistance centers could be located for several days leading up to Census Day, April 1 st. Locations suggested include the Jennie Riley Center, Evelyn Kennedy Center, Recreation and Fitness Center, Municipal Court, and City Hall. 6. Administrative Reports Masood Malik reported that at Monday night's Council meeting, the Mayor presented a Proclamation to Yvonne Moore, U.S. Census Bureau Partnership Specialist. In general, the Proclamation declared City of La Porte support for the goals of the 2010 Census. Complete Count Committee Minutes of November 10, 2009 Page 2 of 2 Mr. Malik mentioned we have a few Census posters, in both English and Spanish, for displaying at area businesses. The Committee will wait until after the first of the year to begin distributing the posters. 7. Committee comments Desirae Renteria, Census Bureau Partnership Assistant, was available to answer questions of the Committee and questions posed by Steve Soroczek, an interested citizen who arrived at the meeting at 6:25 p.m. Mr. Sorowczek wanted to become better informed about the Census taking effort in order to dispel rumors he has heard. The Committee agreed to sponsor a booth at Christmas on Main Street scheduled for December 3rd. The Committee liked Vickie Campise's suggestion to set-up the booth in front of her antique store, as a matter of convenience. Chairman Hill reported three Committee Member resignations to date, due to their work schedules: Manley Boudreaux, Lou Ann Martin, and Mike Cooksley. Chairman Hill asked for 8Yz x 11 hand-outs to distribute at the Community Thanksgiving Service that will be held at Fairmont Park Church at 6:00 p.m. on November 22nd. Several locations were suggested for distributing Census literature: Harris County Health Center on Broadway, Neighborhood Center, churches, schools, and water bills. A. Matters appearing on agenda.
