Walker Jesse Garcia Sherry Lowe Earl Ehlers Others in Attendance: Wanda Gorton, Office Assistant with the City of Morgan's Point Staff Members Present: Masood Malik, City Planner and Peggy Lee, Office Coordinator 1. Call to order. Meeting called to order by Chairman Don Hill at 6:10 p.m. 2. Roll call of members. Members in attendance for roll call were Don Hill, Herman Berges, Jeanne Zemanek, Marie Meehan, Vickie Campise, Charlie Perry, and Paula Swearingen. 3. Consider approval of February 23, 2010, meeting minutes. Motion by Paula Swearingen to approve the February 23, 2010, meeting minutes. Second by Marie Meehan. Minutes were approved as presented. 4. Discuss committee activities in preparation for Census Day, April 1, 2010. Completed: ./ A census link has been placed on the front page of the City's website. ./ A census message has been placed on the March utility bills. ./ The census proclamation signed by the Mayor has been placed on the City's website as a news article. ./ Our Partnership Specialist has been in contact with the LPISD Superintendent about the Census in Schools program, which is being managed by the school administration. There are a variety of lesson plans, maps, and teaching guides for teachers geared for children and teens. ./ Various census articles will run weekly in the Bayshore Sun. ./ David Novasad with the library prepared a 1Yz minute video that has been placed on the City's cable access Channel 16. Copies of the video will go to Morgan's Point and Shoreacres. ./ Census Day has been placed on the City's website calendar for April 1. ./ A census message has been placed on the City's facebook and twitter accounts. ./ A census article was placed in "La Porte by the Bay" publication. ./ Posters have been delivered to City Departments. Complete Count Committee Minutes of March 9, 2010 Page 2 of 2 ./ Flyers/posters have been made available to Neighborhood Center. ./ Posters have been delivered to some businesses along Main and Broadway. ./ A brief census message has been placed on the new City marquee. ./ Paula Swearingen has coordinated the delivery of posters/flyers to the Chamber, a presentation @ Head Start to approximately 27 parents, a Census 2010 Assistance Forum scheduled for March 30 @ Neighborhood Center, and placed an order for t-shirts and colors/color sheets for distribution to historically undercounted youths (funding made possible by a $2,000 grant from the United Way). Ongoing: )r> Provide flyers to Chairman Hill for distribution at thrift stores, i.e. St. Vincent de Paul and New Life Christian RMA. )r> Paula Swearingen will check with the Chamber of Commerce about e-mailing the census message to its membership. )r> Provide literature to churches with pre-school, day-school, and after-school programs, i.e. St. John's, Beacon School, etc; need input from committee members on locations. )r> City staff will send a city-wide phone message about the census via Connect-CTY during the week of March 15-19. )r> Flyers will be distributed to food pantries, i.e. Light of Christ Lutheran Church's "Ray of Light" pantry and Bayshore Baptist Church's monthly "Angel Food" distribution. )r> Flyers/posters will be made available to the Light of Christ Lutheran Women's Recovery Center and daycare facility. )r> Members should contact businesses with marquees to inquire about the pOSSibility of posting a census message; if unable to contact businesses directly, notify Chairman Hill for his assistance. )r> Faith-based census information is being provided to churches. )r> Inquire about possibility of placing a census message on TXDOT roadway message boards (713-802-5662 - Engineering). 5. Administrative Reports The grand opening ceremony for Five Points Town Plaza is scheduled for the afternoon of March 25th. Committee Members are encouraged to attend. 6. Committee comments A.
