2. INTRODUCTION AND OPENNING REMARKS
Members introduced, opening remarks by Mr. Sabo, explained the goals and objectives of the 2005
Comprehensive Plan Review.
La Porte 2020 Comprehensive Plan is a 20 year master plan intended to serve as an official document,
adopted by City Council some five years ago. Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 219 requires plan
review after every 3-5 years period. The review committee was approved by City Council at the May 9,
2005, meeting. Ms. Betty waters completed an initial review of the plan. At the conclusion, the plan requires
an updated addendum and not an extensive rewrite of the plan itself.
3. CONSIDER DISCUSSION AND REVIEW OF THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
Ms. Waters explained the review process and emphasized members to look at the plan and its projections
for first five years; what was accomplished or achieved and to list the accomplishments over the last 5 years
and to set the goals for the next five years.
4. IDENTIFY PROCEDURES AND AREAS OF CONCENTRATION
The Committee discussed proposed schedule for the review process. The members will review chapters 1-6
on June 30th and the remaining chapters on July 18th at 7:00 PM in Conf. Room B. Each member will then
begin to schedule meetings with department heads to review what has been accomplished in their areas
within the Comprehensive Plan, what is ongoing and what is expected in the near future. The members will
also ask if any goal is unattainable. The following committee members volunteered to focus on the
commodity area as indicated:
Betty Waters -Fire/EMS & Public Safety
David Brady -Planning, Community/Economic Development
Ed Matuszak -Public Works
John Tomerlin -Parks & Recreation
Chester Pool -Main Street District (Redevelopment Strategies)
The Committee would like to have several follow-up meetings in August. After reviewing, the committee will
forward the updated addendum to the Planning and Zoning Commission in September.

Chairperson Waters adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m.
