OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE

Members Absent: Bill Bentley, alternate
Council -appointed Officers Present: Corby Alexander, City Manager; Clark T. Askins,
City Attorney; Lee Woodward, City Secretary
The City of La Porte Drainage and Flooding Committee met in a regular meeting
on January 13, 2025, at the City Hall Council chamber,
604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas, at 5:00 p.m.
1. CALL TO ORDER - Chair Martin called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
2. CITIZEN COMMENT
There were no comments.
3. STATUTORY AGENDA
a. Presentation, discussion, and possible action to approve the minutes of the
November 11, 2024, meeting. [Lee Woodward, City Secretary]
Member Engelken moved approve the minutes of the November 11 2024
meeting the motion was seconded by Member Williams the motion was adopted
3-0.
b. 100-Acre-Foot Detention Pond - Presentation discussion and possible action
regarding the status of development of a 100-acre-foot detention pond
project near the Pasadena Convention Center and Brookglen Subdivision,
pursuant to interlocal agreement between the City of La Porte and the City
of Pasadena. [Ray Mayo, Director of Public Works]
Mr. Mayo said the environmental permit has been approved by the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers and the City of Pasadena plans to go out for bid in the first
quarter of the year.
c. HCFCD Project Update - Presentation, discussion and possible action
regarding Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and Harris County
Precinct 2's current and future plans related to flood mitigation in the City of
La Porte. Ray Mayo, Director of Public Works
Mr. Mayo said the north Phase 1 pond is expected to be completed in February.
d. Current Drainage Project Update - Presentation, discussion, and possible
action regarding the status of current drainage projects. [Ray Mayo, Director
of Public Works]
Mr. Mayo said almost all the storm pipe has been installed at Bayside Terrace. In
the Northside Neighborhood Project, he said the contractor is finalizing street work
on Polk, and the phase of the project should be completed. Mr. Mayo said the
interlocal agreement has been completed for the F101 project, allowing it to
proceed, and clarified the Battleground Estates project will follow it. He also noted
Harris County has committed to desilting in the area.
e. Additional Drainage Concerns - Presentation, discussion, and possible
action to provide administrative staff of the City with direction, if necessary,
regarding additional drainage concerns. Ray Mayo, Director of Public Works
There were no additional items.
4. SET NEXT MEETING - The next meeting is scheduled for February 10.
5. COMMITTEE COMMENT
Members thanked Mr. Appel for attending the Brookglen HOA meeting last week,
noted there would be a Bayside Terrace Civic Club meeting tomorrow night, and
thanked staff for their assistance to those residents.
