Askins, City Attorney, Lee Woodward, City Secretary The City of La Porte Drainage and Flooding Committee met on June 9, 2025, at the City Hall Council chamber, 604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas, at 5:18 p.m. 1. CALLTO ORDER -Chair Martin called the meeting to order at 5:18 p.m. 2. CITIZEN COMMENT There were no comments. 3. Presentation, discussion, and possible action to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2025, meeting. [Lee Woodward, City Secretary] Member Engelken moved to approve the minutes: Member Williams seconded the motion the motion was adopted, 3-0. 4. 100-ACRE-FOOT POND - Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding the status of the 100acre-foot detention pond project near the Pasadena Convention Center and Brookglen Subdivision, as established in amended interlocal agreement between the City of La Porte and the City of Pasadena. [Ray Mayo, Director of Public Works] Mr. Mayo announced the City of Pasadena has chosen to stay with the original scope and may pursue the additional 50-acre-foot expansion separately. He said the project is expected to be advertised the first week of July, for consideration by the Pasadena City Council in August, and letting the bid in September or October. City Attorney Askins said he had visited with the City of Pasadena's City Attorney's Office, who confirmed Mr. Mayo's statements. Mr. Askins said he was assured that the results of the Pasadena mayoral runoff election should not have any impact on fulfilling the terms of the contract. 5. HCFCD PROJECT UPDATE - Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and Harris County Precinct 2 current and future plans related to Flooding in the City of La Porte. [Ray Mayo, Director of Public Works] Mr. Ratliff from the Harris County Flood Control District provided brief updates, saying Brookglen Phase 11 design was complete and anticipated bidding in the fourth quarter of the year. Member Engelken asked for attention to limbs/branches and mowing. Mr. Ratliff also had a map of the Battleground Estates desilt work to be done Tuesday morning. 6. CURRENT DRAINAGE PROJECT UPDATE - Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding the status of current drainage projects. [Ray Mayo, Director of Public Works] Mr. Appel said the Northside Project was substantially complete and would be walked again with Hams County on June 12. Regarding the Bayside Terrace Project, there was a preliminary walkwith the contractor and were meeting weekly and the City was still coordinating with the residents. Chair Martin requested a copy of the project punch list. Mr. Appel confirmed that missing street signs could be replaced promptly. On the Brookglen Project, he said perhaps 98% of the waterline was finished, connections were being made as the additional pipe was arriving. Mr. Appel said there was one more junction box to put in. He said that for the City to have someone present overnight for security would be about $86001week. Member Engelken said things did seem to be going well and concerns had been addressed by staff. 7. ADDITIONAL DRAINAGE CONCERNS - Presentation, discussion, and possible action to provide administrative staff of the City of La Porte with direction, if necessary, regarding additional drainage concerns. [Ray Mayo, Director of Public Works] There were no additional concerns. 8. SET NEXT MEETING -The next meeting was set for July 14. 9. COMMITTEE COMMENT The Committee thanked City stand Mr. Ratliff. Martin adjourned the meeting at 5A2 p.m.
