OF THE LA PORTS FIRE CODE REVIEW COMMITTEE FEBRUARY 25, 1982 MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE PRESENT: Jac Owen, Jerry H ge, Pau Hickenbottom, David Paulissen, Delbert Walker, Al Fields, Kevin Graves, Mark Williams, Carlos Smith Jimmy Crate representing Joe Sease. Mc Laughlin PRESIDING: Jack Owen, Chairman 1. CALL TO ORDER - Jack Owen called the meeting to order at 0701 hrs. 2. READING OF THE MINUTES - Minutes of February 11 & February 19, 1982 were rea Motion to approve the minutes as read made by Jerry Hodge. Motion seconded by Paul R. Hickenbottom Ayes: All For Nays: None 3. OLD BUSINESS - Article 2 - Division 2 - Section 2.9 - Subsection (d) which was passe on 2-18-82 was presented by Paul R. Hickenbottom. The committee discussed and approved the revision with the following changes: (d) An operational corridor shall be maintained to any fire hydrant, fire department connection for a sprinkler system, standpipe system to other installed fire protection equipment which is installed for use by the city fire department inside of a shopping center, school, hospital, medical complex, institution or any other business. Such corridors must be at least twenty-five (25) feet wide to permit a current model puaq~er to coruzect large suction to a large hydrant outlet or other installed fire protection equipment. If the operational corridor is in excess of one hundred fifty (150) feet in length and dead ends, there shall be a turnaround area provided. The Fire Chief shall approve the operational corridors and/or turnaround areas. The Fire Marshal may require collision guards and paint striping to protect the hydrant and/or other installed fire protection equipment and to identify the operational area. Motion made by: Delbert Walker Motion seconded: Jerry Hodge Ayes: All For Nays: None • • FIRE CODE REVISION - Article 3 - Division 5 - Section 3.11 - Subsection (a) - (c) Paragraphs 1-6 After discussion by the Committee, the revision was made in Subsection (c) Paragraph 5 to read as follows: (5) If a required water main and/or fire hydrant is not available, the builder shall install said main and/or fire hydrant under prevailing rules and regulations of the City of La. Porte. Motion made by: Paul R. Hickenbottom 'Motion seconded: David Paulissen Approved by a vote of: Ayes: All For Nays: None There was a general discussion of Article 3 - Division 5 - Section 3.11-Subsection (d); sprinkler systems, with the following topics brought up. 1. Revision on testing of piping for sprinkler systems. 2. Revision on placement of meter for water source to sprinkler systan. 3. Delete dry systems. 4. One tap only on system. Tabled for further discussion. No formal action was taken on Article 3 - Division 5 - Section 3.11 Subsection (d) At the request of Chairman, Jack Owen, the March 4, 1982 meeting has been cancelled. The next scheduled meeting will be March 11, 1982. Motion made by Paul R.
