1. The meeting was called to order
2. The minutes of the June 10 meeting were read. P4otion was
made by Jerry Hodge, seconded by Robert Byars, to approve
the minutes as read. The motion carried.

ARTICLE 36 FIRE CODE REVIE'~ CONiIUIITTEE
DIVISION 1 GENERAL
SEC. 36.1 Fire Code review board established; composition;
appointment; term; meetings; duties of board; quorum consti-
tuted; filling vacancies.
There is hereby established a Fire Code Review Board which
shall consist of 9 voting members and 3 ex-officio members.
The voting members of the Fire Code Review Board shall
be appointed as follows:
(1) The councilpersons representing the following
districts, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, shall each appoint one (1)
member. Said members shall reside in that respective council-
person's district.
(2) The councilpersons representing the following districts,
At Large - Position A and At Large - Position B, shall each
appoint one (1) member. Said members shall reside in La Porte.
(3) The Mayor shall appoint one (1) member. Said member
shall reside in La Porte.
The three (3) ex-officio non-voting members shall be:
(1) The Fire Chief, or his duly authorized Fire Depart-
..~ent representative.
(2) Tire Fire Harshal, or his duly authorized Fire Pre-
ven;.~c- ~::rea-~ representative.
(3) The Chief Building Official, or his duly authorized

The chairman and vice-chairman of this board shall be
elected by the voting members of the board and shall be voting.
members only.
The Fire Marshal shall be the Secretary to the Fire Code
Review Board. It shall be his duty to post notices of
meetings, kee1~ minutes and all correspondence of the Board,
or any other duties as may be assigned by the Board.
The term of office for the Fire Code Review Board shall
be two (2) years in length or until a successor is appointed
and qualified.
A quorum of the Fire Code Review Board shall be required
to hold any meetings. A quorum shall be five (5) voting mem-
bers present.
The Chairman shall request replacement for any member who
has missed three (3) consecutive posted meetings without being
excused.
Whenever any position on the Board shall become vacant by
reason of deatiz, resignation or removal, the Chairman will
notify the Mayor of the City of La Porte and appointments
shall be made from the proper district for the unexpired term
of the member being replaced.
Regular meetings of the Board shall be held on the second
Thursday of each month to consider variances as required. All
other meetings shall be called by the Chairman as deemed neces-
sary.
The duties of the Fire Code Review Board shall be to
consider variances, to interpret the provisions of the fire
code, to recommend changes in the fire code, to hear appeals
from decisions of the Fire Chief or Fire Marshal. The Fire
Code Review Board shall submit an annual report to City Council
of actions taken by the Board during the preceding year, together
with any recommendations to amend the City of La Porte Fire Code.
Niotion was made by Jerry Hodge to accept. Seconded by Al Fields.
The motion carried.

Whenever this code is inapplicab e or any reason to any
situation involving the protection of persons and property from
the hazards of fire and explosion, the materials, methods of
construction, installation, practices, or operations necessary
to provide such protection s~iall, to a reasonable degree, be in
accordance with nationally recognized and accepted standards,

established methods of fire prevention and control, as set
forth in the following publications by recognized national
authorities and technical or scientific organizations,
which are adopted by references as part of this code as
though set forth therein in full:

ARTICLE 37, DIVISION 1, SECTION 37.1 was discussed. Motion
was made by Jerry Hodge, seconded by Joe Sease, to table
this Article for further study. The motion carried, 7 ayes
and 2 nays.
4. ADJOURNMENT
Motion was made by Delbert Tr~alker, seconded by Al Fields, to
adjourn. The motion carried and the meeting was duly adjourned
at 9:00 P.M.
