CITY COMMISSION AND PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION
LA PORTE, TEXAS - MARCH 3, 1975
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor E. A. Thomas,
Commissioners C. D. C ristensen, I. J. Kibodeaux, A. Uel
Price, and C. D. Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION ABSENT: None.
MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING & 'ZONING COMMISSION PRESENT: Walter
Roberson, Chairman; Wm. S. Love, Jr., Secretary; J. H.
Smith, and Wm. R. Shedelbower.
MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION ABSENT: Lois
Compton.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Larry L. Broussard, Director
of Finance; Margie Goyen, City Clerk; Knox Askins, City
Attorney; Larry Morton, Director of Public Works; Herb F.
Freeman, Chief of Police; Joe Sease, Fire Chief.

1. CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Thomas called the meeting to
order.
2. INVOCATION - The invocation was given by Commissioner
Price.
3. JOINT PUBLIC HEARING - CONSIDER REZONING CERTAIN TRACTS
OF LAND IN NORTHERN AREA OF CITY - Mayor Thomas called
the Joint P is Hearing wit t e Planning and Zoning
Commission to order to consider rezoning certain tracts
of land in the northern area of the City from Residential
to Commercial; and one tract from Residential to Commercial
with Special Use Permits for Light Industry.

It was ascertained that notices to all property owners
and property owners within 200 feet of the property under
consideration for rezoning were mailed on February 14,
1975, and that a Public Notice of this hearing was published
in the official newspaper of the City on February 13, 1975;
A copy of said notice and property description is attached
and made a part of these minutes.
Mr. Walter Roberson, Chairman of the Planning and Zoning
Commission was recognized and located the property in
question on the map.
Mayor Thomas asked if there was anyone desiring to speak
in opposition to the rezoning. There being none, asked if
there was anyone desiring to speak in favor of the rezoning.
There being none, declared the joint public hearing closed.

Upon the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission
to rezone the West 1/2 Block 72, West 1/2 Block 73, West 1/2
Block 96, West 1/2 Block 97, West 1/2 Block 338, and the East
1/2 Block 616. All of Blocks 613, 614, 615, 327, 328, 329,
330, 331, 332, 439, 973, 974, 975, 976, 977, 978, 979, Town
of La Porte, from Residential to Commercial; the other tract
from the drainage ditch at "L" Street West to 16 Street,
North on 16 Street to Hwy. 225 and back on the City Limit
line on the South side of the Tunnel and come back down the
bay front line and back down to the railroad tract at
Broadway, from Residential to Commercial with Special Use
Permits for Light Industry. Motion by Commissioner Price,
seconded by Commissioner Kibodeaux to rezone the above
stated property. A copy of said description is attached and
made a part of these minutes. Motion carried by the following
vote;
AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux,
Price and Boyle.
NAYS: None.
