• CITY COMMISSION AND PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION
LA PORTE, TEXAS - MARCH 15, 1976
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor Pro-Tem I. J.
Kibodeaux; Commissioners Bill Love, Virginia Cline, and C. D.
Boyle.
MEMBERS OF THE CITY 'COMMISSI'ON ABSENT: None.
MEMBERS OF THE PLANN'ING' &~ ZONING COMM'ISSI'ON PRESENT: Walter
Roberson, C arles C ristensen, and J. H. Smith.
MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION ABSENT: Wm. R.
Shedel ower, and Kerry Beverly.
OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Margie Goyen, City Clerk;
Knox As ins, City Attorney; H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police;

1. CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Pro-Tem Kibodeaux called the meeting
to order.
2. INVOCATION - The invocation was given by Commissioner Love.
3. JOINT PUBLIC HEARING WITH PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
TO CONSIDER REZONING 78.0575 ACRES - W. M. JONES SURVEY,
A-482 FROM RESIDENTIAL TO "C" APARTMENT AND COMMERCIAL -
Mayor Pro-Tem Kibodeaux opened the joint public hearing
and asked if there was anyone present desiring to speak
for the proposed rezoning?
A. MR. MELVIN LEWIS - PRESIDENT OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE,

• Commission on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, stating
that the Executive Board endorsed the rezoning for the
proposed project.
B. MR. JOHN KIIB LER, JR. - CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EXECUTIVE
BOARD MEMBER AND ATTORNEY - was recognized and addressed
t e Commission. Mr. Kiibler stated that the Chamber of
Commerce was working on census information and from the
data being compiled there was a need and would continue
to be a need for multi-family residences. A letter was
presented from the Chamber of Commerce. A co~Sy is attached
and made a part of these minutes.
C. MR. EDDIE GRAY - 604 W. Jack - Ba town - Mr. Gray
addresse t e Commission stating that he was the developer of
Fairmont Park and had made the request for rezoning of the
property under consideration at this time. He presented
pictures of the proposed development for shopping facilities
as well as multi-family units and discussed the possibility
of medical care project at a later date.
D. WALTER ROBERSON - Chairman of Plannin and Zonin
Commission - was recognize and stated that the Planning and
Zoning Commission had had two or three meetings for considera-
tion of the proposed rezoning for this project and the P & Z
• Commission voted unanimously to rezone this property. The
P & Z Commission would stand on the unanimous vote for the
rezoning of 78.0575 acres, W. M. Jones Survey, from Residential
to Commercial.
Mayor Pro-Tem Kibodeaux asked if there was anyone desiring
to speak in opposition to the rezoning? There was none.
The joint public hearing was declared closed.
CONSIDER APPROVING ORDINANCE NO. 780-FF - After the proposed
ordinance was read in ul , motion by Commissioner Boyle,
seconded by Commissioner Cline to approve Ordinance No.
780-FF as read. Motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Love, Cline, and Boyle.
NAYS: None.
CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 780, THE
CITY OF LA PORTE ZONING ORDINANCE, BY CHANGING THE
CLASSIFICATION OF THAT CERTAIN PARCEL OF LAND HEREIN
DESCRIBED: AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
This, Agenda Item No. 24, was taken out of sequence.
