HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-29-1990 Sports Association Ad Hoc Committee minutes MINUTES OF LA PORTE AD HOC ASSOCIATION - MARCH 29, 1990 CALL TO ORDER The La Porte Sports Association held their meeting on Thursday, March 29, 1990, at the Public Works Building. Those in attendance were Bert Clark, Tim O'Connor, David Hyde, Becky Smith - City of La Porte, Lee Allen - La Porte Soccer - George Van Dyke - La Porte Oilers, Billy Hayes - La Porte Boys Baseball, Trumon Finchum - La Porte Girls Softball, Sylvia Simms - La Porte Girls Softball, Pat Bell - La Porte Girls Softball, Becky Smith - La Porte Girls Softball, Debbie Clark - La Porte Raiders Softball, Ronnie Bass - La Porte Boys Baseball, Cecile Paschal - Rodeo Association (Arena), Rex Carr - Rodeo Association (Arena). President Lee Allen called meeting to order at 7:40 A.M. REVIEW OF ASSOCIATION BYLAWS Sylvia Simms made a motion to change Article II, Section B to read: The membership shall consist of one (1) voting representative of each Youth Sports Organization. The Athietic Coordinator for the City of La Porte shall be an ex- officio member. George Van Dyke seconded this motion. Lee Allen informed Sylvia that per Article IV, she needs to provide each member with a fourteen (14) day written notice of the proposed change prior to the next meeting. Lee Alien recommended that each organization be notified before the next meeting to access the interest in the Association and who is interested in being represented. CONSIDERATION OF PREVIOUS BUSINESS President Lee Alien asked group for any old business. None was presented. DISCUSSIONS Tim O'Connor talked about the need for better communications between the organizations and the Parks and Recreation Department. He asked that each organization give the Parks and Recreation Department first chance at solving problems before approaching City Hall. He used the example of changing the Pinto field from grass to dirt after the field had been irrigated for grass, therefore using material and labor that was not needed. Billy Haynes responded with how the city has done a fine job on the fields and the irrigation designed for grass will still be great for the dirt field. The Pinto league will maintain the dirt infield. Pat Bell would like to have a form or whatever is needed to get the Girls softball complex done and ready on time. Sylvia Simms read her letter to the Association requesting basic care of the softball fields. Tim O'Connor discussed the budget deadline that the Parks and Recreation Department must meet and advised each organization to submit a request including field requirement materials, specs., equipment, etc. for the Fiscal 90- 91 year no later than May 17, 1990 (One week before next meeting) It was decided upon at this time to have the next meeting on May 24, 1990 and all request are due no later than this meeting. Tim O'Connor distributed copies of practice field layout and talked about the scheduling of fields for baseball and softball in La Porte. David Hyde requested that the softball and baseball associations please notify him in advance for the use of Field #3 for practice use and to follow his department procedures for its use. He also notified them that fields #1 and #2 are off limits to the public for practice. CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS Cecile Paschal would like to get on a schedule for mulching the Rodeo Arena. Bert Clark advised her that this would be taken care of this summer. She also requested minor repair work on the two gates at the arena. Tim O'Connor opened discussion on covering the arena at an approximate cost of $20,000.00. Rex Carr said that the Rodeo Association was estimating it at about $150,000.00. The Rodeo Association also requested at this time that the lights at arena be adjusted. The baseball and softball also made these requests at this time. Bert Clark said that a bucket truck was at the baseball fields on March 25, 1990 but it started raining and that they would make a round as soon as it dries out. The Little League said they had received a 6 foot backstop and would like for it to be extended to 8 foot. Tim O'Connor and Bert Clark scheduled a "walk -thru" meeting on April 4th at 3:30 with the Softball association and on April 5th at 10:00 A.M. with the Baseball association. ADJOURNMENT This meeting was adjourned at 9:10 P.M.
