CALL TO ORDER The La Porte Sports Association held their meeting on Thursday, November 15, 1990, at the Public Works Building. Those in attendance were as follows: Pete Kirchberg - La Porte Girls Softball Jim Rigby - La Porte Soccer Lee Allen - La Porte Soccer George Van Dyke - La Porte Oilers (Came in at 8 p.m.) Debbie Clark - Raiders Softball Stan Sherwood - City of La Porte Bert Clark - City of La Porte Becky Smith - City of La Porte President Lee Allen called the meeting to order at 7 :40 p.m. REVIEW OF MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING: Debbie Clark made a motion to accept the previous minutes as presented. Seconded by Pete Kirchberg. REVIEW OF ANY OLD BUSINESS AND /OR COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS: None ELECTION OF NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS: Election was tabled until the February 19, 1991 meeting due to By Law requiring a 2/3 representation. REVIEW OF IRRIGATION SYSTEM: BERT CLARK Postponed until a representative from La Porte Boys Baseball is present at the meeting as most of the irrigation system concerns their organization. NEW BUSINESS Bert Clark announced that the Parks and Recreation Department is preparing to plant 50 -60 Live Oak trees, Willow Trees, Pampus Grass. Some of these will be planted at Lomax Softball Complex. Bid requests were sent to our Purchasing Department on November 14th for renovation of the scorekeepers booths at Lomax. Ad -Hoc Minutes November 15, 1990 Page 2 NEW BUSINESS (CONTINUED) Pete Kirchberg requested repair for Lomax fences, lights and batting cages. Stan advised him that we would repair the lighting and fences and that the batting cages were built by the Softball Association and were to be maintained /repaired by them. George Van Dyke announced that their last game would be December 1, 1990. He stated that they are once again in need of lighted practice fields. Stan advised that he would contact the School District regarding the possibility of lighting their fields with the City maintaining them. George stated that there was a need for a total of 2 Drill Team practice fields and 4 Football practice fields. Lee estimated that a rough figure for creating these fields would be $15,000.00. George will get an estimate ready and present it prior to the February meeting. George also announced the need for a storage area for their equipment trailer and their concession trailer. Stan will ask Chief Powell if the impounding yard could be used. Jim Rigby announced that the Soccer Association donated $3700.00 to run fence at Northwest Park Soccer Complex. This job should be completed in about 2 weeks. A discussion was held on building a bridge across Big Island Sleu. Stan advised that this would not be cost effective. Stan announced that in order for the Soccer Association to build a permanent structure at Northwest, they must supply a storm water retention where the water can be held. Stan will visit with the City Engineer to get an approximate cost. NEXT MEETING IMPORTANT MEETING: ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS. The next meeting will be held on February 19, 1991 at 7:30 p.m. at the Public Works Building. Pete Kirchberg made a motion to adjourn this meeting at 9:35 p.m. seconded by Jim Rigby.
